Abstract: Techniques for calculating a per-tenant cost in a multi-tenant data storage system. In one example, a method comprises the following steps. One or more cost contribution factors associated with a storage provider entity operating a data storage system for a plurality of tenants of the data storage system are identified. One or more cost items chargeable to each of the plurality of tenants are identified, the one or more cost items being associated with usage of the data storage system by each of the plurality of tenants. The one or more cost contribution factors associated with the storage provider entity are correlated with the one and more chargeable cost items for each of the plurality of tenants. A respective cost value payable by each tenant is determined based on the correlation step. In one further example, the methodology calculates a fixed energy cost associated with storing tenant data and a dynamic energy cost associated with the tenant accessing the stored data.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an apparatus and method for facilitating access to data in a distributed storage system by using a processing unit configured to collect information related to running status of the distributed storage system; obtain metadata related to data stored in the distributed storage system; in response to a request from a client, provide to the client the information related to running status and metadata related to data to be accessed; and extend storage nodes in the distributed storage system so that the client can directly access the storage nodes by using the information related to running status and the metadata related to data to be accessed. Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and apparatus for database search, by grouping data entries based on join conditions between the data entries as set in search conditions; and executing the search based on the grouping of the data entries, and can efficiently and effectively resolve the issues that are common to the existing MapReduce query processing systems, thereby being particularly suitable for big dataset analytics in a large cluster system.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to method and apparatus for system problem diagnosis and recovery. According to embodiments of the present invention, problem symptom information in a system can be automatically monitored and collected BY a monitoring apparatus (or referred as to “agent”) deployed at the system side. Upon after receiving such information, the diagnosis apparatus, for example, may automatically determine a root cause of the problem by querying a backend knowledge repository, and possibly generate an executable software package for recovering the problem. If the diagnosis apparatus determines that the currently available information is insufficient to determine a creditable enough root cause and/or is insufficient to generate the software package for recovering the problem, the diagnosis apparatus may interactively control the monitoring apparatus to collect desired additional information. In this way, the efficiency and accuracy of problem diagnosis and recovery may be improved.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and apparatus for managing opinion data. In an embodiment, there is provided a method for managing opinion data. The method comprises: acquiring an opinioned sentence from one or more text sources; extracting an opinion tuple based on the opinioned sentence, the opinion tuple at least containing an opinion word and an opinion target. The method further comprises: storing in association the opinioned sentence, opinion tuple and source information corresponding to the opinioned sentence, wherein the source information is associated with the text source from which the opinioned sentence is acquired. The opinioned sentence, the opinion tuple and the source information acquired from the text sources are stored in association by using for example an XML storage format so that the stored opinion data are associated to a certain degree, and the stored opinion data are easily extended and modified.

In one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a method for providing computing resources to a user, comprising: in response to a request from the user, looking up in a profile repository a profile corresponding to the user's domain information; requesting at least one computing resource associated with the profile; integrating the at least one computing resource into a virtual datacenter; and providing the virtual datacenter to the user; wherein the at least one computing resource is physically deployed in a distributed manner. Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for searching information. The method is for, in response to receipt of a keyword from a search user of a plurality of users, searching in an information repository to obtain one or more information items to be returned; and returning the information item to the search user based on an importance of each information item of the one or more information items. With the method, it is possible to fully leverage various objective internal relationships between search users, information items and creators and thus improve the search accuracy.

The method extracts a plurality of metadata from a source information set so as to generate a metadata set, the metadata comprising error log information that forms an error sequence in the metadata set; and generates a common error sequence set for a plurality of the metadata sets. By means of the method, it is possible to easily obtain a global error sequence pattern, and easily compare a new error with a previous error sequence pattern so as to prevent, diagnose and recover the new error.

Abstract: It is decided whether to increase a total amount of storage in a pool of Hadoop storage and whether to increase a total amount of processing in a pool of Hadoop processing. If it is decided to increase the total amount of storage and not increase the total amount of processing, the total amount of storage is increased without increasing processing. If it is decided to not increase the total amount of storage and increase the total amount of processing, the total amount of processing is increased without increasing storage. In response to receiving a request to perform a process on a set of data, processing is allocated from the pool of processing and storage is allocated from the pool of storage where the allocated processing and storage are used to perform the process on the set of data.

Abstract: A request is obtained at a monitoring controller to provide a monitoring function for at least one subject virtual processing element (e.g., VM) in a virtualized information processing system. The monitoring controller selects and/or provisions at least one traffic capture appliance configured to capture traffic associated with the subject virtual processing element. The monitoring controller requests the virtualized information processing system to forward a copy of traffic associated with the subject virtual processing element, using traffic mirroring and an encapsulated tunnel, to the traffic capture appliance for analysis.

Abstract: Example embodiments of the present invention provide a method, apparatus and computer program product for determining a share of power consumption by an application executing on a server. The method includes obtaining metrics relating to operation of the server and obtaining metrics relating to server resource utilization attributable to the application. A transformation is then performed using the metrics relating to operation of the server and server resource utilization attributable to the application to determine the respective share of power consumption by the application executing on the server. Additionally, greenhouse-gases attributable to the application also may be calculated.

Abstract: A data classification system is associated with a hybrid cloud comprising at least one private cloud and at least one public cloud. The data classification system comprises a data set classification model classifying data sets, a cloud classification model classifying the private and public clouds of the hybrid cloud, and mapping policies each specifying a particular mapping between one or more classes of the data set classification model and one or more classes of the cloud classification model. The data classification system classifies a received data set using the data set classification model, and determines for the received data set at least one cloud of the hybrid cloud to which the received data set should be directed for further processing based at least in part on a result of the classification of the received data set, the cloud classification model and a selected one of the mapping policies.

Meta data associated with the output data set generated by execution of the data analytics workload is obtained, wherein the meta data includes lineage information corresponding to the output data set generated by execution of the input data set. Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for generating data provenance associated with a computing system. For example, a method comprises the following steps. Information associated with the execution of a given process in a given computing environment in accordance with a given process data set is captured. A provenance data set is generated based on the captured information. The generated provenance data set comprises one or more states associated with one or more execution components of the given computing environment that existed during execution of the given process, the one or more execution components comprising one or more virtual machines and one or more storage units. At least a portion of the generated provenance data set may be utilized to revert the computing environment back to the one or more states associated with the one or more execution components of the given computing environment that existed during the execution of the given process.
