  • Patent number: 5290091
Abstract: Apparatus for preventing whiplash-related injuries to a passenger in a vehicle. The apparatus includes a frame supported on a seat of the vehicle and located behind the cranium and cervical spine of a passenger on the seat. A layer of resilient material is supported on the frame, and defines a supporting means located behind the cranium and cervical spine of the passenger which defines one or more contours that interfit with the posterior contour of the passenger's cranium and cervical spine. The apparatus thereby contacts and supports the posterior portion of the passenger's cervical spine substantially simultaneously with contact and support of the passenger's cranium, thereby substantially simultaneously decelerating the cranium and cervical spine during a vehicle collision to prevent whiplash-related injuries to the passenger.

  • Patent number: 5181763
Abstract: An apparatus for preventing whiplash related injuries has a support member adjustably supported within the seat of a vehicle, and adapted to be moved upwardly or downwardly relative to a passenger in the seat. A frame is supported on the support member and located behind the cranium and cervical spine of the passenger. A layer of resilient material is supported on the frame, and defines a supporting surface. The supporting surface defines a contour that corresponds to the posterior contour of the passenger's cranium and cervical spine. The supporting surface is therefore adapted to simultaneously decelerate the cranium and cervical spine during a vehicle collision and, thus, prevent whiplash related injuries to the passenger.

  • Patent number: 5085462
Abstract: A horn switch and driver side airbag assembly for a motor vehicle has a lower contact integrally coupled to the top wall of the inner cover of an airbag module. The inner cover is adapted to receive the driver side airbag therein, and the top wall thereof is adpated to open outwardly when the airbag is deployed to permit the airbag to pass therethrough. An outer cover is fitted over the inner cover, and an upper contact is integrally coupled to a flexible wall of the outer cover. The flexible wall is adapted to open outwardly when the airbag is deployed to permit the airbag to pass therethrough. The upper and lower contacts thus remain securely coupled to the outer and inner covers, respectively, when the airbag is deployed and, therefore, avoid striking a passenger in the vehicle. The upper contact is spaced above the lower contact and adapted to contact the lower contact and, in turn, actuate the horn switch, by urging the flexible wall of the outer cover toward the inner cover.

  • Patent number: 4729764
Abstract: An irrigation device for injecting and withdrawing liquid from a body cavity, comprising a first chamber separated into two compartments by a partition provided with a one-way valve, wherein one compartment is operatively connected to a rolling diaphragm in combination with a piston member and the other compartment provided with a nozzle adapted to be coupled to a catheter already inserted in the body cavity.A second chamber is removably attached to the first chamber with a gasket and filter member therebetween. With the device filled with irrigating liquid, manually pushing the piston member into the operatively connected compartment forces liquid through the one-way valve into the other compartment and through the nozzle and catheter into the body cavity.
