  • Publication number: 20260153933
Abstract: A data structure storing information representative of an immersive experience comprises information representative of the haptic capabilities of a reference haptic rendering device. Therefore, haptic signals may be adapted to the capabilities of a different rendering device with different haptic capabilities. Such adaptation may be performed directly at the rendering stage by the rendering device itself. A transcoding process allows the generation of a new data structure for a rendering device with different haptic capabilities.

  • Publication number: 20260153935
Abstract: A haptic rendering device and corresponding rendering method allow to render a haptic effect defined in a haptic signal comprising information representative of an immersive scene description. The immersive scene comprises information representative of at least one element of the scene and information representative of a haptic object, comprising a type of haptic effect, at least one parameter of the haptic effect, and a haptic volume or surface where the haptic effect is active. The parameter of the haptic effect may be a haptic texture map. A corresponding syntax is proposed.

  • Publication number: 20260072506
Abstract: A data structure for an immersive scene description comprises information representative of a haptic effect based on a haptic mipmap comprising a plurality of haptic textures. At rendering, one haptic texture is selected from the plurality of haptic textures at least based on the speed of the user interaction: when the user interacts at a slow speed, a texture with fine details is selected to render the haptic feedback and when the user interaction is faster a texture with less details is selected. The haptic texture may also be selected based on the tracking rate of the rendering device. This selection of haptic texture can ensure a satisfying rendering of the haptic effect.

  • Publication number: 20250271935
Abstract: Syntax elements of a haptic scene format distinguish, for a haptic signal, the parts of the haptic signal related to the haptic effect from the parts related to the washout. This allows a haptic rendering device to adapt the haptic signal to the specific type of haptic device, the haptic device capabilities and the target body part, in order to remain below the perception threshold and ensure the expected haptic experience.

  • Publication number: 20250266847
Abstract: An encoding method and apparatus proposes to encode an input signal based on multiple frequency bands. After decomposing the input signal in multiple frequency bands, a low frequency band signal is encoded based on extracted keyframes comprising temporal references. A residual error signal is generated by subtracting a reconstructed version of the low frequency band signal from the original low frequency band signal. In one embodiment, this residual error signal is then added to one of the frequency bands and encoded with this frequency band. In another embodiment, the residual error signal is encoded separately, as an additional frequency band or separately within an existing band.

  • Publication number: 20250252830
Abstract: A data structure for an immersive scene description comprises information representative of a haptic effect based on haptic texture and an additional information field to determine how to interpret haptic textures, thus allowing to differentiate between the cases where a pixel represents directly the value of the haptic effect or where a pixel references a haptic signal representing the haptic effect. The additional information may also carry information to select a bit depth and a range for a haptic property amongst a set of different settings.

  • Publication number: 20250138639
Abstract: A coding method allows to compress a haptic signal of a haptic effect. Compression parameters are determined at least based on a location where a haptic effect is to be applied. Information representative of the haptic effect comprises the compressed signal and the location. The location may be based on body segmentation, or vertex-based or texture-based. Corresponding decoding method, coding device, decoding device, computer program, non-transitory computer readable medium and system are described.

  • Publication number: 20250044871
Abstract: A data structure storing information representative of haptic effects comprises a set of haptic effects and a timeline. Haptic effects may be defined in a flexible manner, either directly within the timeline or referenced by an identifier within the timeline. A library may store definitions of the effects with associated identifiers. Data restructuring processes are proposed to convert from a streaming-friendly format where the library is not used to an edition friendly format with the use of a library, and vice versa.
