    Abstract: An endless driven belt strainer adapted for use as a porous barrier in a channel containing a flowing liquid, such as a channel supplying raw sewage to a treatment plant. The belt strainer is composed of a number of endless porous wire or plastic screen strips arranged in side-by-side relation and which pass over a driving roller, guide rollers and a tension adjusting roller, all of which rotate in a frame having an upwardly inclined bottom portion which slopes away from the direction of flow of the liquid to be cleansed, and a top portion located above the liquid level and equipped with a cleaning means for removing foreign matter from the belt strainer as it commences its return travel. Means is provided for twisting each porous strip 180.degree.

The apparatus involves one completely integrated and automated unit together with a control center by means of which electric circuits program each component of the apparatus to automatically regulate the operation of each component, so that no labor or other manpower is required in the operation, except for observation, lubrication, maintenance and repair of the various motors and machineries involved.
