  • Patent number: 5112662
Abstract: A method for providing a lubricant coating on the surface of a magneto-optical disk is disclosed. The method includes forming a lubricant solution by dissolving a functionalized fluorinated lubricant compound in a solvent, the compound containing at least one fluorinated alkyl chain, and a functional group selected from an alcohol group (OH), carboxyl group (COOH) and phosphate group (PO.sub.4). The lubricant compound has a melting point above the ambient operating temperature of said magneto-optical disk and below about C. and a viscosity in the range of about one hundred to about one thousand centipoises in the temperature range of about to about C. The surface of the magneto-optical disk is coated with the lubricant solution, and the solvent is evaporated to produce a lubricant coating on the surface of a magneto-optical disk.
