  • Patent number: 11118636
Abstract: A transmission system includes a clutch control valve assembly having an armature for adjusting a valve, rested upon metallic slide bearings under the force of gravity. The armature includes a core material that is metallic and magnetically soft, an outer thin-film coating that is non-metallic, and a backing substrate material for supporting the outer thin-filmed coating interposed the core material and the outer thin-film coating. The backing substrate material may be case hardened material derived from the core material, such as ferritic nitrocarburized (FNC) iron. The outer thin film coating may be a diamond-like carbon (DLC) material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 15, 2019
Date of Patent: September 14, 2021
    Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.
Inventors: Bao Feng, Andrew Henry Nippert, Qursheed Hussain Mohammed

  • Publication number: 20150014427
Abstract: A control valve of a fuel injector includes a generally cylindrical control valve housing having an axis, and a control valve body disposed within the control valve housing. An inlet throttle passage is in fluid communication with the control valve housing and is oriented to be generally tangential to the control valve housing.

  • Patent number: 8480009
Abstract: A low leakage large bore fuel system includes a common rail fluidly connected to at least one of a source of heavy fuel oil and a source of distillate diesel fuel. A plurality of fuel injectors are fluidly connected to the common rail and each include a cooling inlet and a cooling outlet. Each fuel injector also includes an electrical actuator coupled to a direct operated nozzle check valve by a pilot valve member and a control valve member. Fuel leakage is reduced between injection events by equalizing pressures in a pilot control chamber and an intermediate control chamber that are separated by a guide surface of the control valve member. Also, between injection events the pilot valve member blocks a drain outlet from a common rail inlet of the fuel injector.
