  • Publication number: 20040006702
Abstract: Remote configuration and utilization of a virtual tape management system via communication of encrypted data. At least one security administrator CPU is communicably attached to a virtual tape management CPU. At least one remote data storage CPU is communicably attached to the virtual tape management CPU and to the security administrator. First software within the virtual tape management CPU validates authorized remote access to at least one remote data storage CPU and encrypts the data. Second software facilitates remote configuration and utilization of the virtual tape management CPU. At least one hardware adaptor card connects the virtual tape management CPU to a host.

  • Publication number: 20030200469
Abstract: Remote configuration and utilization of an emulated device controller via communication of encrypted data external to the controller. In a preferred embodiment, first and second software means executing within a server central processing unit facilitates secured and verified access to emulated input/output devices on behalf of a user community. The emulated input/output devices are further associated with session oriented application programs executed on one or more host central processing units. A user requests utilization of one or more emulated input/output device types whereupon the security software validates the user's request. If authorized, a hardware adaptor card is initialized with an input/output device configuration reflecting the user's request and control is passed to session oriented programs whereupon the user input/output requests are facilitated via an emulated device as opposed to physical devices associated with the host processors.

  • Patent number: 6499108
Abstract: A system and method for transferring messages securely over a computer network which includes the steps of inputting the message to be transmitted at a first device and then encrypting the message at the first device. An address for a dynamically addressed server is obtained and the first device is connected to the dynamically addressed server. The encrypted message is transmitted from the first device to the server and the message is received at the dynamically addressed server. The message is transmitted from the server to a second device and then the message is decrypted at the second device.

  • Publication number: 20020016912
Abstract: A remote user establishes an interactive session. A pre-determined backup set is encrypted at a remote user site according to a key based upon the user's password. Encrypted backup data is then transmitted to a backup archive server and decrypted utilizing the user's password generated key and re-encrypted according to a user specified backup set key and stored upon an auxiliary storage unit. The present invention further embodies a retrieval process wherein a remote user designates one or more files to be retrieved and the backup set encryption key used during the initial backup operation. Software executing within the backup archive server CPU retrieves and decrypts the specified files according to the originally specified backup set key and re-encrypts the files according to the remote user's password. Retrieved information is then transmitted to the remote user whereupon it is subsequently decrypted at the remote user site.

  • Patent number: 6275855
Abstract: An improved system, method and article of manufacture for facilitating computerized alert system information awareness, information presentation consistency and real-time intervention services is hereby disclosed. A transmitting, or monitored system central processing unit communicates alert related information to a second central processing unit. The second, or monitoring system central processing unit validates such alert information, apprises the operator of status modification with respect to all objects monitored, provides for historical, or precipitating event analysis, and facilitates the input of remedial entries by connecting to the monitored system as an operator console with input command authority. The invention additionally provides for the clearing of monitored object status indicators and a return to its intended monitoring function.

  • Patent number: 5970149
Abstract: A combined remote access and security system for servicing a secure mainframe central processing unit having a console monitor. A secure dispatch central processing unit for receiving problem reports concerning the mainframe central processing unit is in communication with the console monitor. A field engineer's central processing unit is in communication with the dispatch central processing unit. A data encryption key is randomly generated and transmitted from the dispatch central processing unit to both the field engineer's central processing unit and the console monitor. The field engineer central processing unit is in communication with the mainframe central processing unit wherein data transmitted from the field engineer's central processing unit is encrypted and wherein the encrypted data is decrypted at the mainframe console monitor.

  • Patent number: 5689637
Abstract: A computer implemented system for simulating functions of a mainframe computer monitor console. A first central processing unit is in communication with a memory for storing of mainframe operator resonse messages from a mainframe operating system and for storing data representing status of said simulated mainframe computer monitor console. A second central processing unit is in communication with the first central processing unit. Operator input messages are inputed into the second central processing unit through an interface. A simulator engine stored in the memory and executed by the first central processing unit selects messages from the mainframe operator response message database; selects response messages that are unsolicited with respect to operator input messages; selects response messages from a random events list; and updates data representing the status of the simulated computer monitor console.
