  • Patent number: 7373040
Abstract: A WDM optical transmission system and method uses slope compensation at the transmit terminal and/or the receive terminal. The system and method may be used with modulation formats with a short pulse width and a broad optical spectrum.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 13, 2007
Date of Patent: May 13, 2008
    Assignee: Tyco Telecommunications (US) Inc.

  • Publication number: 20080074278
Abstract: An alarm indicating output appliance can be releasibly affixed to a mounting plate. The plate carries wire receiving terminals which couple to the appliance. In the absence of the appliance, at least two of the terminals can be short circuited.

  • Patent number: 7318448
Abstract: A swimming pool cleaning device includes a fluid distribution system for controlling its operation. More particularly, the distribution system includes a housing having an inlet for receiving a supply of pressurized fluid, a pair of outlet openings and a valve chamber positioned between the inlet and the outlet openings. A piston, including a valve member, is movably mounted in the housing so as to be movable between a first position, in which the valve member closes one of the outlet openings so as to divert pressurized fluid to the other one of the outlet openings, and a second position, in which the valve member closes the other one of the outlet openings so as to divert pressurized fluid to the one of the outlet openings. A valve is provided for controlling the movement of the piston between the first and second positions. The piston has a passage extending therethrough so as to permit flow of pressurized fluid from the valve chamber to the valve.

  • Patent number: 7317187
Abstract: Sol-gel derived monolithic silica columns containing entrapped dihydrofolate reductase were used for frontal affinity chromatography of small molecule mixtures. The output from the column combined with a second stream containing the matrix molecule (HCCA) and was directly deposited onto a conventional MALDI plate that moved relative to the column via a computer controlled x-y stage, creating a semi-permanent record of the FAC run. The use of MALDI MS allowed for a decoupling of the FAC and MS methods allowing significantly higher ionic strength buffers to be used for FAC studies, which allowed for better retention of protein activity over multiple runs.

  • Patent number: 7304300
Abstract: A method of covertly tagging an object for later tracking includes providing a material capable of at least one of being applied to the object and being included in the object, which material includes deuterium; and performing at least one of applying the material to the object and including the material in the object in a manner in which in the appearance of the object is not changed, to the naked eye.

  • Publication number: 20070274728
Abstract: An optical communication system and method may be configured to operate with optical signals having reduced channel spacing. The system may transmit optical signals on a plurality of optical channels with a pair-wise orthogonal relationship such that a first subset of channels has a first polarization state and a second subset of channels has a second polarization state. The channels may be spaced such that there is no overlap of modulation sidebands associated with channels in each of the polarization states. When receiving the optical signals, the orthogonal channels adjacent to a selected channel of interest may be nulled.

  • Publication number: 20070267394
Abstract: A method and apparatus for welding uses a power circuit and a controller connected to the power circuit. The controller included a welding program having a limited term. The program may be part of a system, or a stand alone program. The controller has a data port and the welding program and/or an authorization is received by the controller on the data port in one embodiment. The welding program includes a limited time module, a limited time in use module, a limited arc start module, a controlled short circuit program, and/or a pulse program in various embodiments. A second welding program, without a limited term module, may be provided.
