  • Publication number: 20120303242
Abstract: In a method for operating an internal combustion engine comprising at least one a cylinder with a combustion chamber, wherein by means of at least one detection device assigned to the combustion chamber a first value characterizing the pressure in the combustion chamber is detected, wherein on the basis of the first value at least a second value characterizing a progression of the energy released during a combustion in the combustion chamber is determined, on the basis of the second value at least a third value is determined, by means of which the progression of the combustion is subdivided into at least two sub-curves and one of the sub-curves is assigned to a normal combustion for operation of the internal combustion engine and the other of the sub-curves is assigned to a special combustion differing from the normal combustion.

  • Patent number: 7165519
Abstract: In a method for controlling an inlet valve of an internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder with at least a first inlet valve and a second inlet valve, wherein the closing time of the first inlet valve is adjustable and the first inlet valve is so controlled that, at a first engine speed, the first inlet valve is closed before the closing of the second inlet valve and, at a second engine speed which is higher than the first engine speed, the first inlet valve is closed after the closing time of the second inlet valve.

  • Patent number: 7028678
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders, some of which can be deactivated during operation of the engine, the cylinders which can be deactivated during operation are configured specifically for high load engine operation and have a lower compression ratio ? than the rest of the cylinders, which are configured specifically for low load engine operation.

  • Patent number: 6640774
Abstract: In a method for operating a diesel engine having a cylinder, a piston which is guided in a longitudinally displaceable manner oscillating between an upper dead center position and a lower dead center position in the cylinder, and an injector having an injector valve for the injection of a fuel quantity into the cylinder, in a compression cycle delimited by the movement of the piston from the lower dead center position to the upper dead center position, combustion air is compressed. In a working cycle delimited by the movement of the piston from the upper dead center position to the lower dead center position, the injection of the fuel quantity occurs. In all operating states the injection begins after the upper dead center position, the injector valve being abruptly opened.

  • Patent number: 6631707
Abstract: A device for recycling exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine via an exhaust gas line in its intake area is equipped with an exhaust gas valve that is positioned within a valve chamber and closes off or opens up the connection to a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. A valve actuating mechanism is located within the valve chamber. The valve chamber is equipped with at least one cooling channel.
