  • Patent number: 7066181
Abstract: A torso support portion and a pair of thigh support portions are each formed of an outer layer of hard relatively stiff molded plastic material of limited flexibility and an inner layer of relatively soft cushioning material for distributing the weight of a patient over a large area. The torso support portion may comprise a rear panel adjustable secured between two body panels. Tightening straps serve to tighten the torso support portion about a patient with the parts of the torso support portion adjacent the front opposite free sides of the two body panels overlapping one another in operative position. A pair of tightening straps serve to tighten each of the thigh support portions about the thighs of a patient with the free sides of each thigh support portion spaced a substantial distance from one another in operative position. Four adjustable suspension straps are provided for suspending the torso support portion and provide a quick-release feature.

  • Patent number: 7041069
Abstract: A powered gait orthosis is provided for exercising the legs of a patient, and includes a treadmill for acting on the feet of the patient and a pair of gait simulation assemblies disposed adjacent to the treadmill. Each gait simulation assembly includes a support arm including pivotally movable first and second depending arms, which further include drive means for movement thereof about first and second horizontal axis. The device further includes first and second attachment means on the first and second depending arms, for attachment to a patient's thigh and ankle, respectively. A lifting means including a drive means is supported in a vertically extending tower, which houses a gait simulation assembly. The lifting means lifts and holds a patient on the treadmill. Control means is provided to operate the depending arms in a controlled manner to cause the legs of the patient to move in a desired gait.

  • Publication number: 20040143198
Abstract: A support structure supports powered lifting means for lifting a patient from a wheelchair and moving the patient over a powered treadmill where the patient is lowered onto the treadmill. A control panel with a mirror thereon is supported at one end of the support structure, and a touch screen data entry/display device is supported by the panel. Two similar housings are disposed at opposite sides of the treadmill. Each housing pivotally supports a support arm which can swing away from the treadmill to facilitate access to the treadmill. Each support arm pivotally supports a first depending arm, and a second depending arm is pivotally supported therefrom. A pair of servo motors are supported by each support arm and are drivingly connected to the first and second depending arms to independently move the depending arms about the pivot axes thereof. A first attachment cuff is connected to the first depending arm for attachment to a patient's leg just above the knee.

  • Patent number: 6752776
Abstract: A torso support portion and a pair of thigh support portions are each formed of an outer layer of hard relatively stiff molded plastic material of limited flexibility and an inner layer of relatively soft cushioning material for distributing the weight of a patient over a large area. Three tightening straps serve to tighten the torso support portion about a patient with the parts of the torso support portion adjacent the free sides thereof overlapping one another in operative position. A pair of tightening straps serve to tighten each of the thigh support portions about the thighs of a patient with the free sides of each thigh support portion spaced a substantial distance from one another in operative position. Four adjustable suspension straps are provided for suspending the torso support portion and provide a quick-release feature. Each of the thigh support portions is connected to the torso support portion in depending relationship therefrom by three adjustable connecting straps.
