  • Patent number: 4605157
Abstract: The invention comprises a method of mounting a cutter, having a stud portion defining one end thereof and a cutting formation generally adjacent the other end, in a pocket in a drill bit body member. The method includes the steps of forming a channel extending into the pocket, inserting brazing material into the channel, inserting the stud portion of the cutter assembly into the pocket, then heating the bit body member to cause the brazing material to flow through the channel into the pocket, and finally re-cooling the bit body member. During the assembly of the various pieces required in the steps mentioned immediately above, a spring is used, cooperative between the cutter and the bit body member, to retain the stud portion in the pocket and also to displace the stud portion toward the trailing side of the pocket.

  • Patent number: 4447315
Abstract: A method is disclosed for hydrocracking a hydrocarbon feedstock having a propensity to form polynuclear aromatic compounds without excessively fouling the processing unit. The hydrocracking method includes contacting the hydrocarbon feedstock with a crystalline zeolite hydrocracking catalyst, contacting at least a portion of the resulting unconverted hydrocarbon oil containing polynuclear aromatic compounds with an adsorbent which selectively retains polynuclear aromatic compounds and recycling unconverted hydrocarbon oil having a reduced concentration of polynuclear aromatic compounds to the hydrocracking zone.

  • Patent number: 4313991
Abstract: A plasterboard seam taping strip having a body formed of planar plastic material with tapered side edges. The rear of the body strip has self-adhesive material applied thereto. On the face of the body strip, extending lengthwise in the middle thereof is a central projection. In alternate embodiments the central projection may be elongated in width and have a notch defined therein. The seam-taping member of this invention may be applied to seams on walls and also on inside and outside corners.

  • Patent number: 4181046
Abstract: A clamping device for stretching sheet material, such as a canvas painting, about a frame member is disclosed. The apparatus of the invention comprises a hand-held clamping device which includes a pair of pivotally connected jaw-carrying members that are movable from an open position, in which the opposing jaws are spaced apart from each other, to a clamping position in which the opposing jaws are placed in tight engagement with each side of the canvas or like sheet material. The first jaw carrying member comprises an elongated handle-type structure or arm that is pivotally connected with the second jaw-carrying member. The latter comprising a plate-like structure having two parallel sides which form a groove for receiving the first jaw-carrying member.

  • Patent number: 4179830
Abstract: An adjustable frame for stretching sheet materials, such as canvas paintings, is disclosed. The frame comprises a plurality of individual frame segment members; and means for interconnecting and/or adjusting, the separation of adjacent frames. The sheet material or canvas is stretched by adjusting or separating the frame segments from adjacent segments to thus expand the overall dimension of the frame. The individual frame and corner segment members comprise light weight, substantially hollow structures which are easily manufactured, yet very sturdy in construction. The framing device of the invention is particularly adapted to be manufactured from light weight plastic materials which offer distinct advantage over known wooden frames. The framing device of the invention is particularly suitable for mounting very expensive oil paintings or masterpieces and overcomes the difficulties of known frames.

  • Patent number: 4148506
Abstract: A novel drawing board particularly adapted for use in making drawings or sketches from charcoals, pastels or similar materials is disclosed. The drawing board comprises a base member or board and a series of plates which are adapted to be positioned around the outer edge or periphery of the board. The individual plates, which are preferably formed of a transparent plastic, are removably secured to the board and, when secured to the board, form a margin or border for the sheets being held. The plates are secured to the board by bolt or other suitable means positioned through openings and/or slots formed in the base member and plates. In the use of the drawing board, the plates are loosened and are moved perpendicular relative to the edge of the board. One or more sheets of paper are then slipped between the plates and the board with the plates then being adjusted and tightened to secure the paper.

  • Patent number: 4144660
Abstract: An adjustable stretching frame for stretching sheet materials, particularly canvas paintings, is disclosed. The frame comprises a plurality of individual frame segment members; means for interconnecting the frame segment members with each other to form a frame; means for adjusting the separation between adjacent frames, and means for maintaining the canvas in a spaced apart relationship relative to the front face of the frame. The latter means may comprise a flexible beading mounted on the individual frame segment members. By adjusting the frame segment members in a manner so as to separate them from their adjacent members, thus expanding the overall dimension of the frame, the canvas is stretched over the frame. The stretchable beading is stretched in such a manner as to fill or complete the space between adjacent frame segment members thus maintaining the overall integrity of the shape of the frame.
