  • Patent number: 5816581
Abstract: An ID chuck is defined by a rotating tube pushed or pulled by a left hand cylinder and piston. The tube moves an extender cooperating with a plug surrounded by a set of collet fingers. The fingers move radially to lock a workpiece against a registration surface, and move inwardly to release the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5524910
Abstract: An independent jaw insert locks in a fixed location. Using a post, the post has a flat extending to a transverse groove. An inserted rod locks the post. In addition, a set screw having a point lands in a dimple on the post; two such set screws apply a pinching action for post clamping and registration.

  • Patent number: 5498008
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a chuck system for a machine tool such as a lathe. It incorporates an elongate cylindrical body which terminates in a set of collet fingers having enlargements at the detail end whereby the enlargements define a circular body. The circular body is divided by slots to form collet fingers with enlargements at the ends of the collet fingers. A circumferential groove is formed having a registration shoulder for all of the lock jaw segments. Each lock jaw segment has a protruding tab. The tab is locked by positioning against the face of the groove and is registered against movement by jamming against a transverse post in the groove which shoulders against a conforming notch on the locking tab. A set screw holds the components in fixed location, and release is accomplished by unthreading the set screw.

  • Patent number: 5197834
Abstract: A machine tool vise is provided with a set of soft jaws. The soft jaws attach inside and against two master jaws. Both jaws of the vice are equipped with an alignment mechanism to position the soft jaws to assure repositioning. Each jaw is provided with a lenthwise slot which provides a registration face at right angles to an upright registration face at the master jaw. The soft jaw is provided with a bracket that registers on the two faces just mentioned to obtain precise repositioning in two dimensions. Positioning in the third dimension is accomplished by use of a registration pin joining the soft jaw to the master jaw, and a tapered set screw threading into a chamfered opening is used along with the pin to accomplish clamping, thereby assuring complete registration of the bracket holding the soft jaw in the vice. The soft jaws can be mounted, removed and later returned with assurances that the soft jaws are held at a fixed location with respect to the cutter and spindle supporting the cutter.
