  • Patent number: 7738768
Abstract: A system for playing a digital signal is set forth that includes a receiver receiving a digital signal. System further includes a buffer storing the digital signal in a buffer. A controller determines a read rate and when the signal is interrupted. When the buffer is full, the buffer is read at about the input rate of the buffer. When the buffer is less than full, the buffer is read at a rate less than the input rate when the digital television signal is interrupted.

  • Publication number: 20090037972
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to play audio and video content at non-native rates are described. An example method includes playing a video portion of audiovisual content at a non-native rate, playing an audio portion of the audiovisual content at the non-native rate to correspond with the video portion, wherein a presentation of the audiovisual content at the non-native rate and a presentation of the audiovisual content at a native rate are substantially indistinguishable to an audience.

  • Publication number: 20080253564
Abstract: A communication system 100 includes a group of user devices, a first device separate from the group of user devices, a first satellite, a peer-to-peer network 130 in communication with the user devices and the satellite 106 and a content delivery network 120 in communication with the user devices. The content delivery network encrypts the content in response to a first encryption-decryption information and communicates the content to the plurality of user devices through a satellite. At each of the plurality of the group of user devices the content is encrypted in response to a second encryption-decryption information. A first user device communicates a content request to the group of user devices. At least one of the group of user devices communicates the content to the first user device through the peer-to-peer network. The first user device requests the encryption-decryption information from a content delivery network through a terrestrial network.

  • Publication number: 20080131075
Abstract: Systems for providing substantially correct pitch audio associated with video played back at a rate other than originally recorded. A system in accordance with the present invention comprises a record/playback device, wherein the record/playback device records audio programming and associated video programming at a normal speed and plays back the recorded audio programming and associated video programming at a range of speeds, a computer, coupled to the record/playback device, for determining the playback speed of the record/playback device, and an audio controller, coupled to the computer, for amending the audio programming to match a playback speed of the associated video programming while substantially maintaining the pitch of the audio programming.

  • Patent number: 6810527
Abstract: An end-to-end global distribution system that can produce and deliver live content as well as pre-recorded content and other content, to commercial passenger aircraft via a satellite and ground-based infrastructure. The content can include live television, pre-recorded content, advertisements as well as other content such as software applications, internet material, etc. The delivered content can be tailored based on distribution criteria such as airline, aircraft, origin and destination, flight number, cabin class, and others. Such system can be advertiser-supported and include targeted and distribution specific advertisements. Furthermore, access to the content can be controlled by various conditional access parameters at the server level, to various aircraft zones, and at the passenger level.

  • Patent number: 6463281
Abstract: A satellite broadcast system and method, particularly useful for television signals, allows for local as well as nationwide broadcast service by allocating greater satellite resources to the more important local service areas. This is accomplished by broadcasting a non-uniform pattern of local service beams and designing the system to establish different service area priorities through factors such as the individual beam powers, sizes, roll-off characteristics and peak-to-edge power differentials. Frequency reuse is enhanced by permitting a certain degree of cross-beam interference, with lower levels of interference established for the more important service areas.
