Patent number: 9291637Abstract: A system for damping a wind vane includes a damping assembly configured to utilize eddy currents to dampen rotational motion of at least a portion of the wind vane. The damping assembly may provide damping of the wind vane to accommodate for sudden changes in wind speed and/or direction while allowing the wind vane to maintain accurate measurements and response in low wind conditions. The damping assembly may reduce the wind vane's susceptibility to oscillation, thereby improving accuracy of the wind vane.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2011Date of Patent: March 22, 2016Assignee: NRG Systems Inc.Inventors: R. Paul Smith, Henry Bush, Emir Heco

Patent number: 9046542Abstract: A bearing assembly for an anemometer configured to provide thrust and axial load protection and reduce exposure to potentially degradative debris and/or contaminants. The bearing assembly includes a first shaft and a second shaft and bearings, wherein the bearings are configured to rotate about at least the first shaft while enclosed within a portion of the second shaft. The second shaft is configured to isolate the bearings from any air flow through the anemometer and debris and/or contaminants carried therewith. The bearing assembly further includes a damping member configured to reduce forces imparted upon the bearings, thereby providing protection and preventing premature damage to the bearings from loads.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2013Date of Patent: June 2, 2015Assignee: NRG SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Emir Heco, Travis Jones, Carolyn Turk West, Henry Bush, R. Patent number: 6588772Abstract: A method for forming a sheet material suitable for use in manufacturing gliding board bases includes placing a first group of materials including plastic particles on a continuously moving surface in a first pattern, and placing a second group of materials including plastic particles on the continuously moving surface in a second pattern. Heat and pressure are applied to sinter the plastic particles together to form the sheet material having a first area with a first set of characteristics formed mainly of particles from the first group adjacent a second area with a second set of characteristics different from the first set of characteristics formed mainly from particles from the second group. The first and second sets of characteristics may include only one characteristic, such as color, hardness, wear-resistance, etc., or a plurality of different characteristics.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2000Date of Patent: July 8, 2003Assignee: The Burton CorporationInventors: R. Paul Smith, G. Scott Barbieri

Patent number: 6520530Abstract: A core for incorporation into a gliding board, such as a snowboard. The core includes anisotropic structures that are oriented so that a principal axis is non-parallel to the orthogonal axes of the board. The core may be tuned to provide anisotropic structures with the load carrying ability specific to a localized region of the board.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2000Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Assignee: The Burton CorporationInventors: David J. Dodge, R. Paul Smith, Paul J. Fidrych

Patent number: 6502850Abstract: A core for incorporation into a gliding board, such as a snowboard. The core includes longitudinal and transverse core segments with long grain configurations that are combined to adjust the edge hold and maneuverability of the board to accommodate particular riding characteristics. The core segments include anisotropic structures that are oriented relative to the orthogonal axes of the board to achieve the desired core characteristics. The transverse core segments are located along the side edges of the core and oriented to tune to the core edges for a particular edge hold and overall board maneuverability.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1999Date of Patent: January 7, 2003Assignee: The Burton CorporationInventors: Hubert S. Schaller, R. Paul Smith, G. Scott Barbieri, Paul Fidrych

Patent number: 4660469Abstract: A shear system for processing scrap is provided that includes guiding and catching walls for enhancing the loading of large items into the shear system. A tiltable hopper is provided with an open rear so that very large and long scrap items may be processed. The hopper is tiltable so that scrap items may be loaded with relatively smaller apparatus. The system operates to precrush the scrap material taking advantage of leverage yielded by using pivoting wing and flap crushing surfaces. Crushing forces are essentially relieved prior to shearing to decrease the likelihood of jamming of the shear head. The system is modular and may be shipped to and erected in remote locations where electric power for operating the system is not available. The system includes an enclosed and protected area for the power plant and control station.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1986Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Assignee: T.W. & Judson Shear Company, Inc.Inventors: R.
