Abstract: This invention relates to the area of Mobility and Handover between heterogeneous wireless networks. The scope of the invention also covers the case when the UE is capable of accessing both the WLAN and EUTRAN access systems simultaneously and also the case where the UE is not capable of accessing both the WLAN and EUTRAN access systems simultaneously. This invention provides a system and method to perform Mobility between the access systems with optimized authentication procedure using security context transfer between the access systems and also minimize the data loss by buffering the data during the handover. More specifically, this invention provides a system and method to support handover between the I-WLAN and the EUTRAN access systems.

Abstract: A method for connection roaming a Mobile Node (MN) to a Network GateWay (NGW) for providing secure data path using Internet Protocol (IP) security procedure. Also Mobile IP (MIP) is required for providing mobility to the user, when the MN moves from one sub-network to another. However, when the Home Address of the network is not known, a cyclic interdependency is observed between the IP Security (Ipsec) procedures and MIP procedures. If the home address of the MN is not known initially during the procedure, IPsec Security Associations (SA's) are formed between the MN and NGW such that only MIP packets are passed through. After the MIP Registration is completed, the Home Address of the MN is known from the MIP registration Reply. MN now forms a data path tunnel with the NGW by exchanging Create_Child_SA messages.

Abstract: Provided is a method for optimizing a current tunnel authentication for a 3G-WLAN interworking system that includes a UE, WLAN, PDG and AAA Server, wherein the UE has been previously authenticated by the AAA Server. The method includes intimating the AAA Server to derive a TSK for a current tunnel establishment request.

Abstract: Method and system for facilitating tunnel management in the 3G-WLAN interworking systems providing dynamic configuration of maximum number of IP Security Protocol (IPsec) tunnels allowed per Internet Key Exchange (IKE) Security Association (SA) at the Packet Data Gateway (PDG) during the initial tunnel establishment procedure. Authentication Authorization and Accounting (AAA) server is notified of the new IPsec tunnel established between the user equipment (UE) and the PDG.
