  • Patent number: 6290384
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a liquid mixture in which mixture components are mixed to produce a product stream having a predetermined connection of a specified component. This mixing occurs within a fluidic network designed such that the components mix in inlet branches to form a first intermediate mixture having a lower concentration than that desired in the product stream. The specified component is metered into the intermediate product stream to produce a second intermediate product stream that is blended to produce a third intermediate product stream. The concentration of the specified component within the third intermediate product stream is measured and the metering pump is appropriately adjusted. The third intermediate product stream then passes through a recycle loop in which recycled product is mixed with an intermediate product stream to produce a liquid mixture stream that is divided into the recycle stream and a product stream.

  • Patent number: 6266339
Abstract: A method of multicasting digital data to a user accessing an Internet connection is disclosed. The method includes placing digital data that is to the multicast in IP protocol to generate IP digital data. The IP digital data is transmitted from a transmission site to a remote Internet point of presence through a dedicated transmission channel substantially separate from Internet backbone. The dedicated transmission channel may be, for example, a satellite channel. At the remote Internet point of presence, the IP digital data is multicast for delivery to at least one receiving Internet user's apparatus connected to but distal from the remote Internet point of presence.

  • Publication number: 20010000457
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for dynamically allocated multiple slots within a multi-channel multi-carrier transmission system. The slots may be allocated sequentially or non-sequentially. The data transmission rate for each slot remains constant, while multiple slots may be allocated to a single user service. Each carrier signal contains header data regarding all other carriers associated with the transmission system to identify the allocation of slots to user services. In an alternative embodiment, an encoding and transmitting system is provided for transmitting one or more video and audio encoded signals in a time division multiplexed manner along separate channels having fixed bandwidths. Multiple audio channels may be transmitted simultaneously with a related single video channel, and vice versa. The time division multiplexed audio/video signals may be transmitted over a single carrier or over multiple carriers.

  • Patent number: 6218568
Abstract: Process for preparing intermediates of formula (III) wherein Y1 is acyloxy, wherein acyl is of the formula R—C(O)—, wherein R is alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms, Y2 is aralkyloxy, and Z is benzoyloxy or acyloxy, wherein acyl is as defined above. Intermediates of formula (III) are useful in a novel process for preparing the mono-L-valine ester of 2-(2-amino-1,6-dihydro-6-oxo-purin-9-yl)methoxy-1,3-propanediol (ganciclovir). The mono-L-valine ester of ganciclovir and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts are of value as antiviral agents with improved absorption.

  • Patent number: 6190170
Abstract: A patient's dental prosthesis (e.g., a prosthesis tooth, crown, veneer, or bridge) is made by acquiring an image of the patient's teeth that contains black and white normalization references. These references are black and white porcelain, for example, that allow software of the invention to determine absolute black and absolute white within the image. The image is then normalized in accordance with the normalization references, which corrects the image for variations in lighting conditions and image source. The normalized image is then standardized by matching the pixels of the normalized image to selected shade standards. The dental prosthesis can then be manufactured by a lab technician by referring to the standardized image. The tooth shade analysis and matching system is also applicable to direct restorations of natural teeth, such as repair of chipped or broken teeth.

  • Patent number: 6188921
Abstract: A superconducting article having a high bulk sheath resistivity, and methods of manufacture of such an article. High-temperature superconductor filaments are disposed in a ductile matrix comprising a high silver content. The matrix is then coated with a solute and heated to a temperature high enough to allow the solute to diffuse into the matrix, but not high enough to allow substantive degradation or poisoning of the superconductor. After diffusion and cooling, the matrix comprises a silver alloy having a higher bulk resistivity than the pure silver.

  • Patent number: 6179527
Abstract: Apparatus for inserting flexible members such as tie-back anchors for slope stabilization or prefabricated vertical drains into underlying earth which includes an articulatable mast to be arranged with a generally upright extent above the underlying earth. An elongated earth penetrating tube or mandrel is carried by the mast for guided movement therealong and for receiving a flexible member for movement with the mandrel to insert the flexible members into the underlying earth. A drive is mounted on the mast and engaged with this mandrel for driving the mandrel into and out of the underlying earth. A vibrator assembly is mounted for imparting vibrations to the mandrel to assist movement of the mandrel in underlying earth when a vibrator is energized. The vibrator assembly includes a circular gear mounted for concentric rotation on an axis and supported for rotation about its axis on a frame carried by the vibrator.

  • Patent number: 6164868
Abstract: A prefabricated vertical earth drain which is provided with an elongated corrugated flexible plastic core sheet with vertical and horizontal dimensions of extension and horizontal corrugations which provide continuous longitudinally extending drain channels that extend in the vertical direction. These drain channels are defined with curved corrugation bends and a series of longitudinally spaced relief protrusions are provided in the channels. In use, the entire structure is surrounded with a filter fabric. The relief protrusions assist in preventing the protrusion of filter fabric into the drain channels.

  • Patent number: 6164892
Abstract: An airport loading system which utilizes various conveyor and elevated configurations to load aircraft rapidly while requiring significantly less processing area. The aircraft loading/unloading turn around time is significantly reduced because the pallets in which the freight is loaded are not lowered to the freight ramp but instead transferred to the system platform.

  • Patent number: 6142711
Abstract: A vibrator for vibrating an object. The vibrator is provided with a rotary housing mounted on a frame for rotation about an axis. Multiple rotary eccentric masses are mounted at equally spaced intervals in this housing about the housing axis and they are mounted for rotation on their respective axes which are parallel to the housing axis. A rotary drive is connected for simultaneously rotating the eccentric masses in the same direction and in synchronism such that all masses are directed simultaneously to their inner most and their outer most positions of movement relative to the housing axis. This generates a force moment about the housing axis which rotatably oscillates the housing.
