In some embodiments, methods, apparatus and computer readable code for transmitting and/or receiving the data packets (for example, transmitting from a sending location to a receiving location where packets are received) are provided. For at least some packets, a dictionary is determined from a respective group of packets, including a first set of historical packets and excluding a second set of historical packet. Each target packet is encoded and/or compressed and/or decoded using the respective dictionary. Optionally, the respective group of packet includes the actual target packet to be encoded and/or compressed and/or decoded.
