  • Publication number: 20220131712
Abstract: To ensure that an electronic device is a secure electronic device, a communication device transmits a request to authenticate the electronic device to a remote electronic device across a network. The communication device receives a security challenge. One or more processors of the electronic device obtain a response to the security challenge using a secret key stored in an encrypted memory of the electronic device. The communication device then transmits the response to the response to the security challenge to the remote electronic device. If the remote electronic device recognizes the response, it transmits a shared secret content marker, which can optionally be presented at a user interface of the electronic device. The request can be automatically initiated by a companion electronic device.

  • Patent number: 11317147
Abstract: An electronic device includes one or more sensors capturing media content from an environment of the electronic device. One or more processors, operable with the one or more sensors, determine whether the media content is private media content. The electronic device includes a private data store and a public data store. When the one or more processors determine the media content is the private media content, the one or more processors store the private media content in the private data store and preclude transmission of the private media content from the private data store to another electronic device. When the one or more processors determine the media content is other than the private media content, the one or more processors store the media content in the public data store and permit transmission of the media content to the another electronic device.

  • Patent number: 11301553
Abstract: An electronic device includes one or more sensors, a user interface having one or more user interface output devices, and one or more processors operable with the one or more sensors and the user interface. The one or more processors receive, from the user interface, a command to power OFF the electronic device. Upon failing to detect, with the one or more sensors, an authorized user of the electronic device as a source of the command to power OFF the electronic device, the one or more processors disable the one or more user interface output devices while leaving the one or more sensors operational.

  • Patent number: 11281799
Abstract: An electronic device comprises one or more sensors capturing media content while the electronic device is situated at a media content capture location. A user interface receives user input requesting transmission of the media content to another electronic device situated at another electronic device location. One or more processors determine whether the media content capture location and the another electronic device location are substantially different locations, and at least temporarily preclude, in response to the user input, the transmission of the media content to the other electronic device when the media content capture location and the another electronic device location are substantially different locations.

  • Patent number: 11281234
Abstract: An unmanned aircraft includes one or more sensors. The sensors identify a predefined crash command from an environment about the unmanned aircraft. One or more processors, operable with the one or more sensors, then determine whether a source of the predefined crash command is authorized to crash the unmanned aircraft. Where the source of the predefined crash command is authorized to crash the unmanned aircraft, the one or more processors crash the unmanned aircraft. Where the source of the command requesting the unmanned aircraft to stop flying is unauthorized to crash the unmanned aircraft, the one or more processors can land the unmanned aircraft without crashing.

  • Publication number: 20220038851
Abstract: A communication device identifies presence of a user in proximity to the device. The communication device includes: at least one input device that captures biometric data associated with at least one user; a network interface device that connects the communication device to at least one second device via an external network; and a processor communicatively coupled to the other devices/components. The processor executes a messaging module to: receive biometric data from the at least one input device; determine if the biometric data matches reference biometric data associated with the at least one user. The processor further, in response to determining that the biometric data matches the reference biometric data associated with the at least one user: generates user presence data, the user presence data indicating that the at least one user is within a vicinity of the first communication device; and transmits the user presence data to the second device.

  • Patent number: 11240358
Abstract: An electronic device includes a first touch sensitive display positioned on a first major surface of the electronic device and a second touch sensitive display positioned on a second major surface of the electronic device, or alternatively a single display wrapping about the first major surface and the second major surface. One or more processors cause a presentation of content on the first touch sensitive display while the one or more sensors receive user input. In response to the user input, which can be received by the second touch sensitive display, the one or more processors cease the presentation of the content on the first touch sensitive display and commence another presentation of the content on the second touch sensitive display. • Patent number: 11233671
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing smart internet of things (IOT) menus utilize a camera of an electronic communications device and entail capturing an image of an IOT device of interest using a camera of the electronic communications device and identifying the IOT device of interest. The IOT of interest is displayed and may be selected by the device user. The user of the electronic communications device is identified and their historical behavior with respect to the selected IOT device is analyzed. A customized, rather than full, IOT device control menu is then generated and presented to the user.

  • Patent number: 11228581
Abstract: Systems and methods for authenticating a user of a mobile electronic device to use a FIDO (fast identification online) compliant application in the device are provided. These entail receiving a user authentication input at the mobile electronic device and caching the authentication input. While the authentication input remains cached, the user is authenticated to use the mobile electronic device via the authentication input. The mobile electronic device is then unlocked and the FIDO compliant application is opened. Secure delayed FIDO authentication is then executed by providing the cached authentication input to the FIDO compliant application to open an authenticated session of the user on the FIDO compliant application.

  • Patent number: 11228673
Abstract: A system and method of adaptive interface switching in a mobile electronic communications device entails engaging in an audio interface task at the mobile electronic communications device. If during the audio interface task it is detected that at least one microphone or at least one speaker of the mobile electronic communications device is compromised, then the system activates a data link to a wearable communication device associated with a user of the mobile electronic communications device. At least one of a mic and speaker on the wearable communication device is then used to continue the audio interface task.

  • Patent number: 11216233
Abstract: An electronic device includes a physical user interface, a wireless communication device, and one or more processors. The one or more processors identify one or more external electronic devices operating within an environment of the electronic device. The one or more processors cause the wireless communication device to transmit content and one or more control commands causing an external electronic device to present a graphical user interface depicting the physical user interface of the electronic device. The wireless communication device then receives one or more other control commands identifying user inputs interacting with the graphical user interface at the external electronic device. The one or more processors perform one or more control operations in response to the one or more other control commands.

  • Publication number: 20210397815
Abstract: An electronic device includes a first display on a major surface, a second display positioned on another major surface, and optionally at least one imager collocated with the second display. One or more processors identify a predefined event occurring and select whether to present content on the first display or the second display. The one or more processors can cause an imager to capture at least one image. When image matches a first predefined criterion, the one or more processors cause a presentation of content to occur on the first display. When the image matches a second predefined criterion, the one or more processors cause the presentation of the content to occur on the second display. The one or more processors can also compare sizes of the first touch sensitive display portion and the second touch sensitive display portion to select between the first display and the second display.

  • Publication number: 20210377384
Abstract: A method, a mobile device, and a computer program product enable capacitive proximity sensing in a mobile device. The method includes determining, by a controller of a mobile device, whether the mobile device is participating in an active phone call. In response to determining that the mobile device is participating in an active phone call, the method further includes determining if an ear speaker mode of the mobile device is enabled. • Publication number: 20210374560
Abstract: An electronic device includes a capacitive driver that is electrically coupled to a pair of conductive plates coupled to a housing and electrically isolated by a dielectric material. The conductive plates are positioned to change relative orientation in relation to deformation of the housing in a first direction. A controller identifies a first capacitance of the pair of conductive plates associated with the housing being in a normal alignment relative to the first direction. The controller presents an object on a user interface device in a first kinematic state. The controller detects, via the first capacitor driver, a change in capacitance from the first capacitance to a second capacitance of the pair of conductive plates. The controller associates the change to a first user input. The controller presents the object on the user interface device in a second kinematic state based on the first user input.
