The thread protector adapted to threadably engage the inside threads of a threaded inlet such as a clean-out used in piping systems defining a threaded passageway. The thread side disposed on a flank of the inside thread. The protected diameter smaller than the minor diameter of the threaded inlet whereby a protected passageway is formed along the protected side of the helical portion. The protected side spaced from a peak of the inside thread.
