  • Publication number: 20170212661
Abstract: Techniques and systems are described to generate a three-dimensional model from two-dimensional images. A plurality of inputs is received, formed through user interaction with a user interface. Each of the plurality of inputs define a respective user-specified point on the object in a respective one of the plurality of images. A plurality of estimated points on the object are generated automatically and without user intervention. Each of the plurality of estimated points corresponds to a respective user-specified point for other ones of the plurality of images. The plurality of estimated points is displayed for the other ones of the plurality of images in the user interface by a computing device. A mesh of the three-dimensional model of the object is generated by the computing device by mapping respective ones of the user-specified points to respective ones of the estimated points in the plurality of images.

  • Publication number: 20170199898
Abstract: Neural network image curation techniques are described. In one or more implementations, curation is controlled of images that represent a repository of images. A plurality of images of the repository are curated by one or more computing devices to select representative images of the repository. The curation includes calculating a score based on image and face aesthetics, jointly, for each of the plurality of images through processing by a neural network, ranking the plurality of images based on respective said scores, and selecting one or more of the plurality of images as one of the representative images of the repository based on the ranking and a determination that the one or more said images are not visually similar to images that have already been selected as one of the representative images of the repository.

  • Publication number: 20170178291
Abstract: Image cropping suggestion using multiple saliency maps is described. In one or more implementations, component scores, indicative of visual characteristics established for visually-pleasing croppings, are computed for candidate image croppings using multiple different saliency maps. The visual characteristics on which a candidate image cropping is scored may be indicative of its composition quality, an extent to which it preserves content appearing in the scene, and a simplicity of its boundary. Based on the component scores, the croppings may be ranked with regard to each of the visual characteristics. The rankings may be used to cluster the candidate croppings into groups of similar croppings, such that croppings in a group are different by less than a threshold amount and croppings in different groups are different by at least the threshold amount. Based on the clustering, croppings may then be chosen, e.g., to present them to a user for selection.

  • Publication number: 20170132290
Abstract: Image search techniques and systems involving emotions are described. In one or more implementations, a digital medium environment of a content sharing service is described for image search result configuration and control based on a search request that indicates an emotion. The search request is received that includes one or more keywords and specifies an emotion. Images are located that are available for licensing by matching one or more tags associated with the image with the one or more keywords and as corresponding to the emotion. The emotion of the images is identified using one or more models that are trained using machine learning based at least in part on training images having tagged emotions. Output is controlled of a search result having one or more representations of the images that are selectable to license respective images from the content sharing service.

  • Publication number: 20170043532
Abstract: This document describes techniques and apparatuses for 3D printing with small geometric offsets to affect surface characteristics. These techniques are capable of enabling fused-deposition printers to create 3D objects having desired surface characteristics, such as particular colors, images and image resolutions, textures, and luminosities. In some cases, the techniques do so using a single filament head with a single filament material. In some other cases, the techniques do so using multiple heads each with different filaments, though the techniques can forgo many switches between these heads. Each printing layer may use even a single filament from one head, thereby enabling surface characteristics while reducing starts and stops for filaments heads, which enables fewer artifacts or increases printing speed.

  • Publication number: 20170004397
Abstract: An intuitive object-generation experience is provided by employing an autoencoder neural network to reduce the dimensionality of a procedural model. A set of sample objects are generated using the procedural model. In embodiments, the sample objects may be selected according to visual features such that the sample objects are uniformly distributed in visual appearance. Both procedural model parameters and visual features from the sample objects are used to train an autoencoder neural network, which maps a small number of new parameters to the larger number of procedural model parameters of the original procedural model. A user interface may be provided that allows users to generate new objects by adjusting the new parameters of the trained autoencoder neural network, which outputs procedural model parameters. The output procedural model parameters may be provided to the procedural model to generate the new objects.

  • Patent number: 9454712
Abstract: Saliency map computation is described. In one or more implementations, a base saliency map is generated for an image of a scene. The base saliency map may be generated from intermediate saliency maps computed for boundary regions of the image. Each of the intermediate saliency maps may represent visual saliency of portions of the scene that are captured in the corresponding boundary region. The boundary regions may include, for instance, a top boundary region, a bottom boundary region, a left boundary region, and a right boundary region. Further, the intermediate saliency maps may be combined in such a way that an effect of a foreground object on the saliency map is suppressed. The foreground objects for which the effect is suppressed are those that occupy a majority of one of the boundary regions.

  • Patent number: 9406110
Abstract: Cropping boundary simplicity techniques are described. In one or more implementations, multiple candidate cropping s of a scene are generated. For each of the candidate croppings, a score is calculated that is indicative of a boundary simplicity for the candidate cropping. To calculate the boundary simplicity, complexity of the scene along a boundary of a respective candidate cropping is measured. The complexity is measured, for instance, using an average gradient, an image edge map, or entropy along the boundary. Values indicative of the complexity may be derived from the measuring. The candidate croppings may then be ranked according to those values. Based on the scores calculated to indicate the boundary simplicity, one or more of the candidate croppings may be chosen e.g., to present the chosen croppings to a user for selection.

  • Publication number: 20160140408
Abstract: Neural network patch aggregation and statistical techniques are described. In one or more implementations, patches are generated from an image, e.g., randomly, and used to train a neural network. An aggregation of outputs of patches processed by the neural network may be used to label an image using an image descriptor, such as to label aesthetics of the image, classify the image, and so on. In another example, the patches may be used by the neural network to calculate statistics describing the patches, such as to describe statistics such as minimum, maximum, median, and average of activations of image characteristics of the individual patches. These statistics may also be used to support a variety of functionality, such as to label the image as described above.

  • Patent number: 9330334
Abstract: In techniques for iterative saliency map estimation, a salient regions module applies a saliency estimation technique to compute a saliency map of an image that includes image regions. A salient image region of the image is determined from the saliency map, and an image region that corresponds to the salient image region is removed from the image. The salient regions module then iteratively determines subsequent salient image regions of the image utilizing the saliency estimation technique to recompute the saliency map of the image with the image region removed, and removes the image regions that correspond to the subsequent salient image regions from the image. The salient image regions of the image are iteratively determined until no salient image regions are detected in the image, and a salient features map is generated that includes each of the salient image regions determined iteratively and combined to generate the final saliency map.

  • Patent number: 9330466
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for three-dimensional (3D) camera positioning using a two-dimensional (2D) vanishing point grid. A vanishing point grid in a scene and initial camera parameters may be obtained. A new 3D camera may be calculated according to the vanishing point grid that places the grid as a ground plane in a scene. A 3D object may then be placed on the ground plane in the scene as defined by the 3D camera. The 3D object may be placed at the center of the vanishing point grid. Once placed, the 3D object can be moved to other locations on the ground plane or otherwise manipulated. The 3D object may be added as a layer in the image.
