Abstract: The present invention relates to an additive composition for a polymer substrate comprising a carrier material, an antimicrobial substance present in an amount of from 1% w/w to 50% w/w. and a food preservative present in amount of from 1% w/w to 75% w/w, wherein the antimicrobial substance is different to the food preservative.

Abstract: A composite sheet material suitable for use as a wrapping material having a layer of non-woven material formed from thermoplastic fibers or spunbonded fabric and a single or a composite water impermeable layer, the layers being laminated together. The composite impermeable layer may include a polymeric woven scrim for increasing the tensile strength and tear strength of the sheet.

Abstract: A degradable plastic film for use as an agricultural mulch film comprises two longitudinal bands each adjacent to a respective longitudinal edge of the film, and a middle section between the bands. The bands and middle section contain degradants. In use, the bands along the edges of the mulch film are buried in the soil and the middle section is exposed to sunlight. By reason of different degradants in the bands and middle section respectively, or different levels of the same degradants, the entire film degrades by the time of the next cycle of cultivation. The film is produced by means of extrusion from two extruders through one circular die which has a die opening with one segment which receives resin with one degradant and another segment which receives resin with a second degradant. The extruded cylindrical film is blown and then slit longitudinally.

Abstract: A sheet material for use as a wrapping material has surface areas with a high coefficient of friction to provide anti-slip properties to the wrapper. The sheet comprises a woven or non-woven scrim with a polymer resin coating on one side and particles protruding from the coating to provide the anti-slip properties. The particles may be polymer resin affixed to the coating by a melt bond or they may be organic or inorganic particles partly embedded in the coating. The sheet material may include additional coatings of resin and paper on the side of the scrim opposite to the particles. The sheet material is made by a method which includes depositing the particles on the resin coating while it is still in a molten state and feeding the coated scrim with particles through a nip between two rollers.
