Publication number: 20080239709Abstract: An emergency lighting fixture includes a door and light source disposed on the door. The door rotates 360 degrees in one direction. A slip clutch assembly permits manual rotation of the door when obstructed by a motor or to remain in the same position when obstructed during rotation by the motor. A capacitor stores energy to close the door. A pressure locking assembly includes a bearing ball biased into engagement with an alignment hole by a spring in response to the door being rotated near a predetermined position. A conductive clip maintains electrical contact with a conductive portion of a hinge as the door rotates. The conductive clip is connected to a power source, and the light source is connected to the conductive portion of the hinge, thereby providing power to the light source after the door has stopped in a pre-determined position or during rotation of the door. The fixture may be used in non-emergency lighting applications.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2008Publication date: October 2, 2008Applicant: THOMAS & BETTS INTERNATIONAL, INC.Inventors: Radu Cornel Rapeanu, Michel Lambert

Publication number: 20080232102Abstract: An emergency light fixture includes at least two light sources and a reflector. The light sources are disposed within the reflector. The reflector includes a first concave surface formed by rotating a first parabola about a first central axis of the first parabola, a second concave surface formed by rotating a second parabola about a second central axis of the second parabola, and a third concave surface formed by translating a third parabola along a substantially straight line. The third concave surface intersects the first concave surface and the second concave surface. The light sources may be disposed at the foci of the first and second parabolas or offset from the foci. The first and second central axes may be oriented at symmetrical angles with respect to a plane bisecting the third parabola. The reflector preferably has no convex joints. The first, second, and third parabolas may be degenerated. A third light source may be disposed within the third concave surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2007Publication date: September 25, 2008Applicant: Thomas & Betts International, Inc.Inventors: Patrick Martineau, Radu Cornel Rapeanu

Patent number: 7362599Abstract: A switching power supply includes a bridge rectifier, a switching device, and a controller. The bridge rectifier is operatively coupled to an alternating current (ac) signal, and outputs a rectified signal. The switching device is electrically connected in parallel with the bridge rectifier. The controller is responsive to the rectified signal and selectively controls the switching device to divert at least a portion of the rectified signal therethrough in response to the rectified signal. A method of supplying power includes coupling a bridge rectifier operatively to an alternating current (ac) signal, the bridge rectifier outputting a rectified signal, coupling a switching device electrically in parallel with the bridge rectifier, and controlling the switching device to divert at least a portion of the rectified signal therethrough in response to the rectified signal.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2005Date of Patent: April 22, 2008Assignee: Thomas & Betts International, Inc.Inventor: Radu-Cornel Rapeanu

Publication number: 20080019142Abstract: A lamp assembly and method for illuminating a backlit sign include at least one circuit board and light emitting diodes mounted on the circuit board. The light emitting diodes are oriented such that a majority of emitted light or a beam from the circuit board is directed to only a portion of the backlit sign. The light emitting diodes are positioned uniformly around a perimeter of the circuit board to ensure uniform illumination around the lamp assembly. The circuit boards are arranged parallel to each other and perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the lamp assembly. The lamp assembly includes a plurality of resistors mounted on the circuit board such that heat dissipated by the resistors is uniformly distributed over the circuit board. The lamp assembly also includes a Bridge rectifier to provide a DC output voltage from AC or DC input voltages.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2006Publication date: January 24, 2008Inventors: Radu-Cornel Rapeanu, Zhi Gang Xing, Michel Lambert
