  • Patent number: 11533214
Abstract: The present disclosure provides an uplink multiple access scheme and technique to enhance the overall spectral efficiency of wireless systems. The scheme and technique exploits an index modulation concept in orthogonal multiple access systems. A first subblock of transmitted data for a user is conventionally modulated, while a second subblock of the data determines the index of the active channel that will be used to communicate the modulated symbol. The scheme and technique enables all available orthogonal resources to be used for an arbitrary number of users as an extra source of information that is used to enhance the overall spectral efficiency in terms of error efficiency and energy efficiency.

  • Patent number: 9954586
Abstract: The single RF chain transmitter implementing space modulation provides wireless multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications that are implemented through a single radio frequency (RF) chain using multiple transmit antennas. A symbol stream is used to provide a single RF signal output modulated by a quadrature or complex symbol stream. An RF switching circuit is used to direct the single RF signal output sequentially to antenna subsets including one or more antennas of a plurality of antennas. An index of the antenna subsets is provided to allow switching by the RF switching circuit according to the index of antenna subsets provides spatial modulation (SM) of the RF signal output as transmitted to through the antennas. The transmitted RF signal output is rendered as a single RF chain through the plurality of antennas as transmitted through the antenna subsets.

  • Patent number: 8045639
Abstract: Provided is a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) data transmission method. A transmitter generates a transmission symbol by adding a parity symbol to a predetermined number of data symbols, generates a preprocessed symbol by multiplying the predetermined number of transmission symbols by a preprocessing matrix in units of blocks, selects a transmission antenna associated with a non-zero transmission symbol among preprocessed transmission symbols constituting the preprocessed symbol, and transmits the preprocessed symbol via the selected transmission antenna. A receiver receives a signal transmitted from the transmitter, estimates a preprocessed symbol and a transmission antenna index from the received signal, and restores the transmission symbols using the estimated preprocessed symbol and transmission antenna index.

  • Publication number: 20110069958
Abstract: The invention relates to an aircraft data communication system as well as an aircraft comprising such a data communication system, in particular a wireless optical communication system inside an aircraft cabin and outside for aircraft services. The aircraft data communication system comprises a first sending unit 10 comprising a first sender and a first modulator, and a first receiving unit comprising a first receiver and a first demodulator. The communication system is adapted for a signal transmission between the first sender and the first receiver, wherein the signal transmission between the first sending unit and the first receiving unit is effected by light, and wherein the first modulator is adapted for modulating an amplitude of the transmitted light.
