  • Publication number: 20080186988
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for processing a transport block having a MAC-hs protocol data unit (PDU) and a corresponding checksum in an HSDPA-compatible (high-speed downlink packet access) receiver in a 3GPP wireless communication network, the method including: (a) recovering the transport block, (b) performing, substantially in parallel: (i) a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) on the transport block to determine whether the transport block passes or fails, and (ii) MAC (media access control) disassembly to generate a modified MAC-hs PDU, and (c) determining whether to perform reordering-queue distribution and reordering on the modified MAC-hs PDU based on whether the transport block passes or fails. By performing the CRC check and disassembly substantially in parallel, processing efficiencies may be gained.

  • Publication number: 20080170516
Abstract: In one embodiment, a transmitter (a) caches one or more MAC-d PDUs received from a network layer, (b) selects a subset of the MAC-d PDUs for combination into a MAC-e PDU, (c) generates the MAC-e PDU from the subset of selected MAC-d PDUs, (d) caches a data structure to allow re-generation of the MAC-e PDU, wherein the re-generation does not rely on any cached copy of the MAC-e PDU, (e) transmits the MAC-e PDU for receipt by a receiver; and (f) determines whether an ACK was received, wherein if an ACK was received, then the MAC-e PDU is re-generated using the cached data structure and the subset of selected MAC-d PDUs, and steps (e) and (f) are repeated, and if an ACK was not received, then the memories used to cache the data structure and the first subset of MAC-d PDUs are freed.

  • Publication number: 20070280171
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for blind transport format detection using Discontinuous Transmission (DTX) detection. According to one aspect of the invention, the transport format that was used to transmit information is determined by identifying a transition between a Discontinuous Transmission segment and a data segment included in the transmitted information; and determining the transport format based on a location of the transition of the Discontinuous Transmission segment. A cyclic redundancy check can optionally be performed for a plurality of possible transport formats, and then the step of identifying a transition can be limited to those transport formats having a valid cyclic redundancy check.

  • Patent number: 6621877
Abstract: A method to train a radio includes the steps of: in a radio (36), receiving a slot of information (2) containing at least an initial portion (4) containing training information (10), a second portion (5) containing training information (11), which second portion (5) is separated from the initial portion (4), and a concluding portion (6) containing training information (12), which concluding portion (6) is separated from the second portion (5). The method combining one of the initial portion (4) with the concluding portion (6a) of a previous slot of information (1) and the concluding portion (6) with an initial portion (4b) of a subsequent slot of information (3) to provide an at least one combined portion of training information. The method using the at least one combined portion of training information and the second portion of training information to train the radio.

  • Patent number: 6490645
Abstract: A method by which a plurality of users share access to a resource such as a common communications channel. Each user is assigned a priority and is provided with a non-uniform probability distribution function corresponding to that priority, with the sum of the several non-uniform probability distribution functions being uniform. Whenever a user wishes to access the resource, the user selects a random number according to its non-uniform probability distribution function and computes an access time based on the selected random number.

  • Patent number: 6163680
Abstract: A two way radio communication system (20) includes a plurality of radio units (22, 24, 26, 28, 30) communicating via at least one communication resource (34, 36). At least one first radio unit (22, 24, 26, 28, 30) of the plurality of radio units includes a receiver (48) for monitoring available resources of the at least one communication resource (34, 36) and a processor (46) for maintaining a prioritized list (45) of said available at least one communication resources and for selecting the highest priority available communication resource when the at least one radio unit (22, 24, 26, 28, 30) wishes to enter into communication with at least one second radio unit of the plurality of radio units. In this manner, an optimized communication resource is selected for the communication.

  • Patent number: 5960360
Abstract: A communication method is provided in which mobiles operating in a trunk mode operation transmit a message on a direct mode operation channel indicating a trunk mode operation connection is present. If a mobile outside the range of coverage of the trunking system receives the message it will deduce from the message the slot structure of the trunk mode channel and its timing, and will then be able to transmit a request for a direct mode connection on an appropriate slot of the trunk mode channel. Some or all of the mobiles operating in trunk mode will then be able to switch to direct mode to connect with the mobile outside the range of coverage.
