Abstract: An isolated DNA molecule encoding a protein comprising all or a portion of a 54 kDa protein of Toxoplasma gondii is disclosed. The protein is capable of reacting with antibodies present in the sera or other biological samples of humans or animals infected with T. gondii. A vector comprising the DNA molecule, a host cell transformed with the vector, and a method for recombinantly producing the protein are disclosed.
