  • Patent number: 8809268
Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions having at least one crystal protein and a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist in amounts effective to inhibit a parasitic worm or helminth infection in a vertebrate or mammal are described. Methods for treating a parasitic worm or helminth infection in a subject are also described. The methods include administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of the at least one crystal protein and a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist. The crystal proteins can be isolated from Bacillus thuringiensis and include Cry5B, Cry21, Cry14A, Cry6A, and Cry13A. The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist can be from the levamisole family, which include levamisole, pyrantel, and tribendimidine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 29, 2009
Date of Patent: August 19, 2014
Assignee: The Regents of The University of California

  • Publication number: 20100024075
Abstract: The invention provides compositions having Bacillus thuringiensis Crystal (Cry) proteins including transgenic plants expressing those proteins, and methods of using those proteins to prevent, inhibit or treat parasitic infections in plants and vertebrates.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 22, 2006

  • Publication number: 20030131378
Abstract: Two genes involved in the resistance of insects to Bacillus thruingiensis toxins have been cloned providing an understanding of mechanisms of resistance to the toxins. Such an understanding allows for rational methods to modify or combine toxins to prevent or overcome Bt toxin resistance to improve crop protection.
