  • Publication number: 20170086210
Abstract: Embodiments include systems and methods for managing inter-radio access technology (IRAT) procedure concurrency between subscriptions on a multi-subscription multi-active communication device. A device processor may identify a higher-priority subscription and a lower-priority subscription on the multi-subscription multi-active communication device. The device processor may determine whether an IRAT procedure on the lower-priority subscription will overlap in time with an IRAT procedure on the higher-priority subscription. The device processor may calculate a deferral time period for the lower-priority subscription in response to determining that the IRAT procedure on the lower-priority subscription will overlap in time with the IRAT procedure on the higher-priority subscription.

  • Publication number: 20170048854
Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for enabling improved scheduling of non-time bounded tasks across multiple subscriptions of a multi-subscription wireless communication device. A processor of the wireless communication device may determine whether the frequency utilized by a radio access technology (RAT) of a first subscription interferes with one or more frequencies utilized by RATs of other subscriptions. In response to determining that two or more of the subscriptions are non-interfering (i.e., RAT frequencies do not interfere) the processor may co-mingle non-time bounded tasks with time bounded tasks of the same subscription to produce consolidated task blocks. The task blocks may be temporal chunks of an execution queue in which tasks are scheduled continuously without interim idle periods. The processor may execute the first task block of each execution queue concurrently across subscriptions to reduce the amount of time that only a portion of the subscriptions are active or dormant.

  • Publication number: 20160157133
Abstract: A throttling mechanism for downlink transmission control is disclosed, in which, in one aspect, a downlink low data-rate transmission may be received at a user equipment (UE). The UE may then measure a performance metric indicating performance of the downlink low data-rate transmission. The UE controls the downlink low data-rate transmission by dynamically adjusting the number of receiving antennas in use in response to comparison results of the performance metric and a threshold value.

  • Publication number: 20160007370
Abstract: Various embodiments provide methods implemented by a processor executing on a mobile communication device (e.g., a multi-SIM-multi-active communication device) to opportunistically schedule a victim subscription's power monitoring activities to occur during periods in which the aggressor subscription is already scheduled not to transmit, thereby reducing the amount of time the aggressor subscription must perform Tx blanking to accommodate the victim subscription's idle-standby-mode operations. Specifically, the victim subscription's monitoring activities may be scheduled to occur while the aggressor subscription is operating in a compressed mode. As a result, the overall throughput/performance of an aggressor subscription is improved as the aggressor experiences relatively fewer blanked transmissions without affecting the victim subscription's ability to perform power-monitoring operations.

  • Patent number: 9198183
Abstract: In overview, the various embodiments describe methods for configuring a nodeB to recognize tuneaway events and to operate in a manner that mitigates the adverse effects of user equipment (UE) tuneaways on network capacity. In the various embodiments, the nodeB may detect that a UE is periodically tuning away based on the periodic, characteristic nature of the drops in the UE's signal strength. When the nodeB recognizes that a UE is performing periodic tuneaways, the nodeB may implement various resource management strategies while the UE is in a tuneaway gap to minimize the impact of the UE's tuneaway gaps and may resume normal resource management operations when the UE is not in a tuneaway gap. Thus, the various embodiments enable the nodeB to determine and manage the effects of a UE's tuneaway gaps, thereby increasing network capacity, optimizing power management, and enhancing the overall user experience.

  • Publication number: 20150065127
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to a method and apparatus for improving connected mode search (e.g., by UE having at least two RF chains). According to aspects, the UE may dynamically configure based, at least in part, on at least one measured signal quality parameter, one of the first or second RF chains to perform a search procedure while the other RF chain communicates with the network. According to aspects, the UE may coordinate a search procedure during compressed mode gaps using both RF chains when a measured at least one signal quality parameter passes a first threshold for both RF chains, wherein a set of one or more carriers searched by the first RF chain is different than a set of one or more carriers searched by the second RF chain.
