  • Patent number: 8013696
Abstract: The present invention provides for a magnetic apparatus and a method of manufacturing the magnetic apparatus including a magnet having an outer surface and an inner surface opposing each other with the inner surface having a first portion and a second portion integrally connected to and facing each other and utilizing a fluid and a fixture body defining a hole along a fixture axis and a deflector disposed within the hole. The method includes the steps of installing the magnet on the fixture body and securing the magnet to the fixture body. The method further includes the steps of flowing the fluid through the magnet transverse to the fixture axis to form at least one aperture and intersecting the fluid with the deflector to redirect the fluid generally along the fixture axis.

  • Patent number: 7505829
Abstract: A system, method, and article of manufacture for determining a productivity rate of a manufacturing system are provided. The manufacturing system has a first and second manufacturing cells. The first and second manufacturing cells has first and second machines, respectively. The method includes predicting a first cycle time indicating a time duration that a part is disposed in the first manufacturing cell. The method further includes predicting a second cycle time indicating a time duration that the part is disposed in the second manufacturing cell. The method further includes calculating a productivity rate of the first and second manufacturing system cells based on the first and second cycle times of the first and second manufacturing cells, respectively.

  • Patent number: 7424334
Abstract: A system, method, and article of manufacture for determining a process plan for forming at least one feature in a part are provided. The method includes automatically identifying first and second features to be formed in the part by accessing first and second feature parameter data, respectively, stored in a CAD model of the part. The method further includes selecting at least a first manufacturing task identifier associated with a first manufacturing task for forming the first and second features in the part. The first manufacturing task identifier is selected from a plurality of manufacturing task identifiers stored in one or more databases. The method further includes selecting a first machine identifier associated with a first machine for performing at least the first manufacturing task, the first machine identifier being selected from a plurality of machine identifiers stored in one or more databases.

  • Publication number: 20040083840
Abstract: A ball screw assembly includes a ball nut or a ball screw having internal or external, respectively, helical curves, wherein two adjacent turns of the helical curves are joined by a crossover/crossunder path, wherein ends of the crossover/crossunder path and ends of the helical curves are integrally joined without interruption. A ball screw assembly may further include crossover/crossunder paths which are staggered about the screw or the nut.

  • Patent number: 5361308
Abstract: The profile of a tool or other object having a flat reference plane is illuminated by interfering beams of coherent light to generate a striped light pattern which at any point deviates from straight lines as a function of the surface spacing from the reference plane. A camera image of the pattern taken at an angle to the beams is processed by an image analysis program which converts the stripes to lines corresponding to light peaks and valleys of the pattern. Tool wear or object profile is determined from the deviation of lines from straight reference lines. The program includes algorithms for identifying peak and valley line segments, determining the segments which are neighbors of other segments, and connecting lines according to a set of rules and constraints which use the data on neighbor segments and the proximity of segment end points.
