  • Patent number: 6554453
Abstract: A lamp having a threaded base for threadedly coupling to an electrical energy source is provided. The lamp includes a light-generating bulb replaceably coupled to the threaded base and a housing coupled to the base. The housing has an inner light-directing surface disposed about the bulb. The housing terminates at an outer rim, and defines an opening. A mounting assembly, including a lens-holding ring with a keeper and a latch hook on the sidewall, removably mounts a lens on the rim in a covering position closing the opening, whereby removal of the lens permits access to the bulb. The lens holding ring may be separable from the housing or may be pivotally coupled to a ring on the housing.

  • Publication number: 20020070649
Abstract: A traffic lamp has a helical coil filament arranged in a pattern with no angles or sharp bends and with each convolution of the coil substantially tangent to the focal plane of the lamp. The filament may be generally in the pattern of the lower case Greek letter Omega and is supported on seven support wires, so that the same filament length can be used for both 120-volt and 240-volt applications. In one embodiment, the lamp has two filaments arranged as arcs of a common circle lying substantially in the focal plane, each arc being supported on three support wires, the filaments being respectively connected in series with diodes so that the filaments respectively conduct on alternate half cycles of the AC source voltage.

  • Patent number: 5140217
Abstract: An electric lamp having a filament with open coiled ends and filament inserts have an end insertable into the open filament ends without threading cooperation and lockingly engage the filament turns. The ends of the filament inserts provide a resilient ratchetted coupling with the successive turns of the coiled filament ends. The filament inserts replace integral coil legs for coil mounting in the lamp.
