Abstract: A system and method is described for determining a condition of a communication line, such as the absence of a filter device on a digital subscriber line (DSL). A first signal characterized by a high upstream power is activated over the line, and a first set of parameters associated with the communication line is obtained. A second signal characterized by a low upstream power is activated, and a second set of parameters associated with the communication line is obtained. Comparison of first and second sets of parameters is indicative of a condition of the connection and presences or absence of a DSL filter on the communication line.

Abstract: A method includes receiving a media request for a target device. The signaling information may be received from the target device and a media server. At least one attribute of the target device and the media server may be identified using the signaling information. At least one attribute of the target device and the media server may be evaluated against a service level objective to select a media format. The service level objective may include consideration of the target device and available bandwidth over a provider network. The media may be provided in the selected media format over the provider network to the target device.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing content. A selection of a single virtual channel may be received from the user. Virtual programming data for the single virtual channel may be accessed. The virtual programming data may define content to be provided over the single virtual channel. Abstract: A system and method are described for selecting a service state using a configurable abstraction layer. A comparison is made between network parameters of a Network Performance Layer and network services of a Service Layer. Once network parameters are within a threshold for providing a given service, a state change can be made in the configuration parameters to suit the provided service.

Abstract: A method and system enable optimization of trunk group design in a public switched telephone network (PSTN). A community of interest, including two end offices connected by a direct trunk and at least one tandem switch, is identified using out-of band signaling data collected from the PSTN. An application server interfaced to the PSTN determines whether traffic in the community of interest passes through the tandem switch during a predetermined time period. When traffic passes through the tandem switch, the application server further determines whether the direct trunk between the end offices experienced an overflow condition during the same predetermined time period. When the direct trunk did not experience an overflow condition, an exchange code associated with the traffic passing through the tandem switch is designated as a misrouted code. The misrouted code is flagged so that associated traffic is redirected through the direct trunk.

Abstract: A system and method are described for selecting a service state using a configurable abstraction layer. A comparison is made between network parameters of a Network Performance Layer and network services of a Service Layer. Abstract: A system and method for adjusting digital subscriber line based services is provided. In a particular embodiment, a computer readable medium is provided including computer-executable instructions that when executed, cause a computer to modify a value of a first control parameter associated with a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) network based on a first performance parameter that is measured in real-time at a DSL modem over a first pre-determined time period.

Abstract: A method is provided that can be used for modifying a control parameter associated with a digital subscriber line (DSL) service. Initially, a real-time performance parameter is received from a first termination unit that is coupled to an DSL circuit. The real-time performance parameter is measured at the termination unit after the termination unit is provisioned and after the DSL circuit is placed in-service. A value of a control parameter associated with the DSL circuit can be modified based on the measured real-time performance parameter. Further, activity over the DSL circuit can be monitored in real-time and when usage of the DSL circuit is below a threshold, the provisionable service parameter that corresponds to the control parameter is modified. Moreover, a first re-provisioning cycle between the first termination unit and a second termination unit coupled to the DSL circuit can be initiated using the provisionable service parameter.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment a method of collecting and processing modem data is provided. The method includes, during training of a broadband modem, sending a series of tones within a frequency transmission band of the broadband modem, receiving the transmitted series of tones at a receiving broadband modem, receiving a measurement value, determining a transmission loss for each of the series of tones by comparing the predetermined transmission power level, and the received measured power level, performing a statistical match comparison between each of the received tone signals and a plurality of different computer models of a single transmission facility having various bridge taps connected to the single transmission facility, and determining a best fit between each of the received tone signals and one of the plurality of the bridge tap computer models. The series of tones have a predetermined transmission power level.

An apparatus that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a system having an inspection element that monitors packet traffic associated with an end user, and determines a behavioral profile of the end user from the monitored packet traffic, a publisher element that detects an end user visiting a website managed thereby, and generates an advertisement request associated with the website, and advertisement element that selects one or more advertisements according to the behavioral profile of the end user, and submits said one or more advertisements to the publisher element for presentation thereof to the end user. Abstract: According to one example embodiment there is provided a computer program executable on a computing platform to at least in part analyze data at least in part obtained from one or more data sources of an Internet-protocol television (IPTV) network, wherein the data provided by the data sources includes set-top-box data, subscriber data, demographic data, content server data and network usage data. In another embodiment, the computer program at least in part correlates video provisioning information obtained from the data sources, individual subscriber channel viewing information, subscriber data and demographic data to provide informative views of data. The provisioning information may include information such as what programs or television (TV) commercials are shown on each channel during different time periods and the TV or video-on-demand program category information.

Abstract: A system and method for imputing data into a database includes an imputing system operable to impute data based on outside plant construction principles. The imputing system includes an inventory database, a data engine, a search engine, and a loop engine. The inventory database includes a plurality of distribution records each associated with one or more cable pairs. The data engine determines if a desired distribution record corresponding to a desired cable pair includes missing data. The search engine searches a known class of serving terminals for complete distribution records and iteratively searches a sized binder group within the inventory database for one or more complete distribution records where the size of the binder group searched increases with each iterative search. The loop engine determines an imputed value for the desired distribution record based on the searching and imputes the value into the desired distribution record.
