Abstract: There is provided the compound N,N-bis-2-mercaptoethyl isophthalamide (NBMI), or a pharmaceutically-acceptable salt and/or derivative thereof, for treatment or prevention of viral infections, such as respiratory infections. Such infections may be caused by respiratory viruses, such as rhinoviruses, influenza viruses and coronaviruses, amongst others. NBMI may alleviate symptoms of diseases caused by those viruses, such as cough, dyspnea, respiratory distress and/or respiratory failure, and/or may prevent (e.g. respiratory) virus-induced morbidity and/or mortality.
