  • Patent number: 7765417
Abstract: An apparatus including an electrical energy storage device arranged to provide an output voltage that decreases with time; a reference clock; and a multi-mode controller having a first mode in which the reference clock is disabled and a second mode in which the reference clock is enabled, the multi-mode controller being operable, when in the first mode, to monitor a voltage provided by the electrical energy storage device and to change the mode of the controller from the first mode to the second mode when the monitored voltage falls beneath a threshold value and being operable, when in the second mode, to enable storage of electrical energy in the electrical energy storage device.

  • Patent number: 6473078
Abstract: A method and a device for power management regarding an integrated display unit including a video display and at least one peripheral device, wherein the video display uses horizontal and vertical sync signals for the synchronization of the display images, and the peripheral device uses a peripheral signal to carry out its function. The peripheral device can be an audio unit using audio signals to produce sound. The peripheral device can be a USB connector using a +5 V voltage to indicate a connection being made to the integrated display unit. In the integrated display unit, a single power supply is used to provide electrical power to the video display and the peripheral device. In order to reduce the power consumption by the integrated display unit, a number of power consumption states, based on the presence of the video sync signals and the peripheral signals, are implemented. The presence of the video sync signals can be detected by a micro-controller in the integrated display unit.

  • Patent number: 6233162
Abstract: A power supply circuit for powering a display monitor has a switching mode power supply (SMPS) circuit and a voltage phase information (VPI) combiner circuit. The SMPS circuit responds to a mains voltage signal (i.e. mains input) and to a voltage phase information combiner signal (VFB) from the VPI combiner circuit, for providing three different signals. The VPI combiner signal (VFB) contains information about a phase relationship between a current drawn by the switching mode power supply and a voltage of the mains voltage signal. The first two signals are provided back to the VPI combiner circuit, and include a voltage phase information signal (VPI) containing information about a voltage phase of the mains voltage signal, and a voltage feedback signal containing information the voltage of the switching mode power supply signal. The third signal is a switching mode power supply signal for powering the monitor.

  • Patent number: 5291474
Abstract: A procedure is utilized for forming the transmission and reception frequencies required for the operation of a digital radio telephone based on time division multiplex access, in particular, in a radio telephone for the GSM system. According to the procedure, the mixer frequencies used in the transmitter and the receiver of the radio telephone are formed by a synthesizer and a basic oscillator commmon to both the receiver and transmitter. The clock frequency for the logic of the radio telephone and the RF reference frequency to the synthesizer are produced by dividing the output frequency of the common basic oscillator.

  • Patent number: 5208494
Abstract: This invention relates to a method by which transients can be eliminated in an apparatus comprising a current source and several functional blocks at least one of which produces transients in the operating voltage. According to the invention, a switch separates the current source and the transient-producing block from the other blocks during the time that transients are being produced and connects the current source to the other blocks and to an energy-storing buffer during the time that transients are not being produced.

  • Patent number: 5109538
Abstract: The present invention concerns a circuitry for widening the power control range of radio telephone. A radio frequency signal is amplified in a controllable power amplifier (1). According to the invention, after the amplifier a controllable switch (4) is connected, which, while in a first state, does not substantially attenuate the RF power emitted transmitted from the power amplifier (1). The first power control range of the transmitter is thus produced. When the switch (4) is in a second state, it directs part of the RF power transmitted from the power amplifier (1) to a resistive element (R1) and permits part of the RF power to be transmitted to the output (RFout) of the transmitter. A second power control range is produced in this manner.
