  • Patent number: 6782990
Abstract: A method and an assembly is disclosed for sorting rolls of paper and paperboard web for shipment into a desired sequence based on customer orders, in which method and assembly a roll to be sortedis imported to an infeed conveyor (2), and from at least two first conveyors (3, 4, 5) is selected a suitable conveyor onto which the roll is transferred. Subsequently, the roll is transferred onto the selected conveyor so that its leading end remains at the receiving end of said selected conveyor, and the rolls are transferred onto the first conveyors (3, 4, 5) in a similar fashion so that the rolls thus placed onto the conveyors remain in a close disposition to each other so as to form a group of end-to-end abutting rolls until at least one of the first conveyors contains a roll group forming a unit load for an upender lift.

  • Patent number: 6758324
Abstract: The present invention discloses a lift-table flatcar conveyor for transferring a roll (3) or, respectively, group of rolls of cardboard, cellulose or paper from a first station to a second station, the lift-table flatcar conveyor comprising a rail (2) arranged between the first station and the second station and, arranged back-and-forth movable along the rail (2) between the first station and the second station, a flatcar (1) onto which the roll (3) or, respectively, a group of rolls is movable. During the transfer operation, the roll (3) or, respectively, the group of rolls moved onto said flatcar (1) is supported by support means (4) that are adapted rotatable for the duration of the return travel of the flatcar (1) from the second station to the first station into a home position, wherein the support means (4) can pass rolls (3) waiting on the stations without making a physical contact with the rolls.

  • Patent number: 6505459
Abstract: A method and apparatus for wrapping paper and board rolls in a wrapper, in which method the roll (10) to be wrapped is conveyed to a wrapping station, is placed on support means and is rotated resting on said support means. The wrapper (24, 27) is threaded about the roll (10) to be wrapped so as to form at least two wrapper plies and the wrapper plies are bonded to each other at least partially with the help of a binder. The rolls to be wrapped are wrapped into at least two parallel and overlapped courses of wrapper using a wrapper web material whose surface is coated with a hot-melting and heat-sealable material that is melted prior to the wrapping of the wrapper about the roll in order to bind the superimposed plies of the wrapper to each other and to seal the joints of said overlapped courses of wrapper.

  • Patent number: 6032584
Abstract: A carriage and track assembly for transferring paper and paperboard rolls along an inclined track. The assembly is useful for the transfer of paper rolls of slippery grades and is based on using a dual track (5, 6) over the length of the inclined section of the transfer track and having compatible wheel sets (3, 4) on the transfer carriage. The front end of the carriage is provided with a wheel assembly (3, 4) in which the rolling perimeter varies at different trackwidths of the assembly. The wheel assembly can be made to run along the inclined sections of said tracks (5, 6) so that in said wheel assembly the rolling perimeters of its wheel sets (3, 4) running on different tracks are vertically located at different heights from the loading platform (1) of the carriage. Thus, the loading platform remains substantially horizontal while the carriage travels along the inclined track.

  • Patent number: 5655425
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for stopping a roll set, quickly in a controlled fashion. Typically, such a roll set is comprised of a plurality of rolls which is launched from a slitter wherefrom it is rolled along a downward ramp to a conveyor. On the downward ramp, on the side of the conveyor opposite the ramp is a number of adjacent stop gages suited for being controlled to a home position and an operating position, respectively. For each roll, a required number of the stop gages located along the rolling path of the roll is selected to operate, while the rest of the stop gages are left in their home positions. In this fashion, each roll can be stopped individually even when the rolls move simultaneously and, moreover, the stopping force can be adjusted separately for each roll.
