  • Patent number: 4581937
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of suppressing unwanted indications in automated ultrasonic testing of a test piece. In order to improve the suppression of unwanted indications, in particular in the case of extended statistical suppression, a variable discriminator threshold (3) is derived from the highest of all maximum amplitudes (2) by means of a predetermined amplitude difference (4), wherein the ultrasonic signals are not evaluated as flaw signals when only said variable discriminator threshold (3) is exceeded but are evaluated as flaw signals only when additionally at least the highest of all maximum amplitudes (2) exceeds the fixed discriminator threshold (1) preset for the testing operation.

  • Patent number: 4333347
Abstract: A transducer for launching ultrasonic test signals is stimulated by an electrical signal which is of trapezoidal contour. Particularly the trailing edge of the signal is to decline at a rate similar at least as to order of magnitude to the rise time, and occurring in synchronism with a natural zero crossing of the vibration of the transducer to fully develop at least one full ultrasonic oscillation.

  • Patent number: 4282577
Abstract: There is described a process for automatically adjusting the angle of inclination and the focus distance of ultrasonic heads in reference to the test piece in devices for the non-destructive testing of work pieces, especially tubes, using a computer where both the adjustment of the angle and the distance are adjusted and examined in each case by two angular transmitters operating mechanically independent from one another and absolutely coded for use by program of the computer. There is also described an apparatus for carrying out the process.

  • Patent number: 4204224
Abstract: There is described a process and apparatus for non-contact measurement of the length of a moving shaped body, and particularly of red-hot semifinished products, by scanning the body with a high-speed camera, characterized in that after a starting signal is triggerd by the side of the shaped body which lies in the direction of movement, a high-speed television camera is triggered which is aligned on a window located at a distance 1.sub.1 from the point where the starting signal is triggered, and determines the length 1.sub.2 of the end of the moving shaped body which projects into the window by means of a slotted diaphragm moving at a high rate of speed and connected to a counter, in which the sum of 1.sub.1 and 1.sub.2 gives the total length of the moving object or body.
