  • Publication number: 20130130971
Abstract: The present invention describes a method to inhibit replication of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) by negatively modulating or altering the cytoskeleton, more precisely the proteins forming the intermediate cytoskeletal filaments, wherein the said proteins are vimentin and/or keratin-10. The replication of the virus is inhibited in human cells by intervening in the structure of these proteins. The present invention is also related to the use of agents, which comprise peptides and/or interfering RNA and/or lipidic compounds, said agents producing a negative modulation or alteration of the cytoskeleton to prevent or to treat the HIV infection. The invention provides means and methods for altering the cytoskeleton/filament structure of cells, as a result of which the infection of human cells by HIV is disturbed and can even be completely inhibited. The cytoskeleton is altered by reducing the amount of vimentin and/or keratin (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20120308615
Abstract: The present invention is related with the field of the therapeutic immunization, specifically with the employment of a new formulation of antigens of the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) for the cellular stimulation. The formulation is formed by the surface antigens (HBsAg) precipitated in suspension and the nucleocapsid (HBcAg) of the HBV. The formulation contains these antigens like suspended particles of sizes less than 500 nm and higher than 500 nm, in a mixture where the proportion among the particles of the mentioned sizes is among 50%-50% and 80%-20%, respectively. The selection of a range of sizes of particles allows that the levels of stimulation of several cellular types are maximized. Additionally, a cellular stimulation method is described with this formulation, and the later passive immunization of patients with chronic Hepatitis B, based on the maximum stimulation in vivo or in vitro using heterologous or autologous cells (dendritic cells, B cells and macrophages).

  • Patent number: 8283324
Abstract: The present invention is related to the development of peptides derived from the sequence HYRIKPTFRRLKWKYKGKFW (SEQ ID NO.: 13), showing amino acid substitutions, these peptides unable to bind to the lipopolysaccharides and bearing anti-tumoral and immunomodulatory capacities. These peptides alone or in combination are useful to treat cancer, and also in synergy with conventional therapies.

  • Publication number: 20100136062
Abstract: The invention relates to human medicine and to the use of epidermal growth factor (EGF) for preparing a pharmaceutical composition which is administered by infiltration into the periphery of nerve ganglia and/or trunks for the morphofunctional restoration of peripheral nerves in painful sensory-motor neuropathy as well as manifestations of ischemic neuritis. The invention also includes a composition containing EGF which can be formulated together with anaesthetics or analgesics or encapsulated in microspheres and to the use thereof for the morphofunctional restoration of peripheral nerves in painful sensitive-motor-type diabetic neuropathy and the manifestations of ischemic neuritis.

  • Publication number: 20090215730
Abstract: Chemical compounds derived by in silico molecular modelling, having a well defined structure suitable for the blocking of the phosphorylation event, through the specific interaction of the chemical with the Casein Kinase 2 enzyme substrate phosphorylation domain or it's neighbourhood. This invention comprises also the pharmaceutical compositions containing such compounds, and their use in the preparation of medicines or agents for the treatment of diseases or conditions related with neoplasic processes.

  • Publication number: 20070275012
Abstract: The present invention is related with the field of therapeutic vaccines against pathogens causing chronic diseases. It comprises the use in therapy of formulations containing the Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) as the main compound. The HBsAg is produced as a recombinant product in Picchia pastoris. The formulations of the present invention also comprise the combination of the Hepatitis B surface antigen and other coadministered antigens. The resulting formulations are able to generate potent lymphoprolipherative and cytotoxic responses apart from a remarkable response of specific antibodies, which make them very effective in the treatment of such diseases.
