Patent number: 5669455Abstract: A bi-rotational coupling system that provides separate transmission components for the weight forces and the torque forces and allows rotation in either direction without decoupling. The weight support component provides vertical connection of rotating members. The torque transfer component, that is functionally independent from the weight support component, provides for transmission of the torque forces between the rotating members. A stabilizer that has a plurality of protrusions extending therefrom prevents contact between the coupler and rotating members and the surrounding tubing. Functionally applying this apparatus affords a method of providing bi-rotational coupling and of reducing component wear.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1996Date of Patent: September 23, 1997Inventor: Rainer Dietrich

Patent number: 5236875Abstract: A process for the liquid phase sintering of silicon carbide, comprising forming a shaped, consolidated powder body which, not allowing for binder, comprises a powder mixture containing at least 75 wt % silicon carbide and from 1 to 25 wt % (calculated as Al.sub.2 O.sub.3) of a powder comprising a source of aluminum selected from alumina, precursors for alumina and mixtures thereof. The body is heated in a non-oxidising atmosphere to a sintering temperature of from 1500.degree. C. to 2300.degree. C. to form a liquid phase and a resultant liquid phase sintered body. In said heating step, the body is heated in the presence of a source of magnesium which is distinct from the source of aluminum and comprises at least one of magnesia, precursors for magnesia, magnesium vapour and combinations thereof, whereby said liquid phase produces secondary oxide constituent.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1991Date of Patent: August 17, 1993Assignees: Western Mining Corporation Ltd., Foseco Pty. Ltd.Inventors: Mark B. Trigg, John Drennan, David G. Hay, Chull H. Oh, Rainer Dietrich

Patent number: 4937022Abstract: To obtain from a product melt a product strip of uniform gage in the nip between two rotating rolls in a continuous cooling and solidifying of metal oxides by cotinuous casting, the gage of the nip, which is preset by the respective product strip, is measured between the rolls. One of the rolls is prestressed against the other by a force. The deviation of the measured gage from a set value is determined and the roll speed is regulated by means of this deviation.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1988Date of Patent: June 26, 1990Assignee: Lonza Ltd.Inventors: Rainer Dietrich, Norbert Burkhardt, Peter Kuhn

Patent number: 4930473Abstract: A swirl chamber and spark plug assembly comprises a unitary generally cup-shaped cylindrical member having external threads for removably installing it in the spark plug receiving hole of an internal combustion engine and a reduced diameter lower portion at the opposite end. The interior of the swirl chamber member has a central bore with internal threads at the top end and a stepped cylindrical swirl chamber defined by a lower cylindrical chamber and an upper cylindrical chamber of larger diameter for swirling gas in relation thereto. A spark plug having elongated electrodes is threadedly received in the top end of the swirl chamber with the spark plug gap at the juncture between the upper and lower chambers.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1988Date of Patent: June 5, 1990Assignee: Texas Ignitors Company, Inc.Inventor: Rainer Dietrich

Patent number: 4847029Abstract: If a liquid metal oxide is fed to the nip of an inwardly cooled pair of rolls to cool and solidify, the rolls are subjected to a great material fatigue because of the constantly changing high heat stresses. A configuration of the rolls with few notches can be achieved by an approximation of the contour of a spherical hood. This is achieved in that each of the rolls (1,2) is designed as a truncated conical section, in that adjacent to the base (9,10), exhibiting the greater diameter of each truncated conical section a cylindrical section (5,6) with the diameter of the base (9,10) and a substantially open front surface (23) is provided. Each truncated conical section is closed, by a plane wall, on the front surface (7,8) with the smaller diameter.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1988Date of Patent: July 11, 1989Assignee: Lonza Ltd.Inventors: Rainer Dietrich, Norbert Burkardt, Peter Kuhn

Patent number: 4481016Abstract: A method of making inserts suitable for tool or drill bits which includes the step of fragmenting, e.g. by means of a laser beam, an abrasive compact in a plurality of discrete, non-segmental fragments. The inserts may have a variety of shapes, some of which are new, such as conical, truncated conical or truncated pyrimidal. The inserts are particularly useful for wire-drawing die blanks and core or oil-well drill bits.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1981Date of Patent: November 6, 1984Inventors: Nicoll A. D.
