Abstract: Paper, board and cardboard having high dry strength are produced by the addition of cationic, anionic and/or amphoteric starch as dry strength agents to the paper stock and drainage of the paper stock with sheet formation in the presence of cationic polymers as retention aids for starch, and cationic polymeric retention aids are used for increasing the retention of dry strength agents comprising cationic, anionic and/or amphoteric starch in the production of paper, board and cardboard.

Abstract: Paper and cardboard are produced by draining pulps, with sheet formation and drying of the sheets, by a process in which first(a) polyethyleneimines having a molar mass M.sub.w of more than 500,000 or polymers containing vinylamine units and having a molar mass of from 5000 to 3 million and then(b) cationic polyacrylamides or polymers containing vinylamine units, the molar masses M.sub.w of the polymers each being at least 4 million,are added to the pulps, and the pulp is then subjected to at least one shearing stage and is flocculated by adding bentonite, colloidal silica or clay.

Abstract: Paper is produced by draining a paper stock containing process chemicals on a paper machine, a main stream of the paper stock and a dilution stream which consists of white water, contains at least 5% by weight of the process chemicals and amounts to 5-35% by volume of the total head box feed being fed via a head box to the paper machine wire. The papers thus produced have an excellent formation profile and an outstanding ash distribution.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of water-soluble, amino-containing condensates and adducts having a greater drainage and retention effect in papermaking, in which from 5 to 95% by weight of the condensates or adducts are separated off as permeate from solutions of water-soluble, amino-containing condensates or adducts by ultrafiltration through membranes and the amino-containing condensates or adducts having improved efficiency are, if required, isolated from the retentate, and the high molecular weight polymer fractions contained in the retentate are used as retention aids, drainage aids and fixing compositions in papermaking, as promoters in the sizing of paper with alkyldiketenes, as flocculants for sewage sludges, as adhesion promoters in the production of laminated films, as additives for hair and skincare compositions and as compositions for immobilizing anionic active ingredients.

Abstract: A method for detecting naphthylamines which are present as tracers in mineral oils, wherein the naphthylamine is extracted by treating the mineral oil with an aqueous medium, and is coupled in the aqueous phase with a diazonium salt to form an azo dye, the use of specific naphthylamines as tracers in mineral oils and mineral oils containing these specific naphthylamines.
