  • Patent number: 5526642
Abstract: A method for monitoring a system for delivering secondary air to an exhaust tube of an internal combustion engine. In the method a secondary air pump is switched on and builds up a pressure on the inlet side of a blocking valve which is normally closed and not being acted upon. The blocking valve has a valve closing member that is acted upon by a predetermined closing force of an elastic element. If the secondary air quantity pumped by the secondary air pump reaches a certain minimum air quantity and pressure, then with the then-opened blocking valve, a lambda sensor disposed in an exhaust tube detects a change in the lambda value in the exhaust tube that exceeds a predetermined threshold value. The method is suitable for monitoring the function of a system for delivering secondary air to the exhaust tube of an internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 5450833
Abstract: A breather valve for a gas tank of an internal combustion engine having an adsorption filter which is linked to the atmosphere by a breather line which is controlled by a shut-off valve. As air flows through the shut off valve, contaminations entrained in the shut off valve may deposit in the shut-off valve, so that it will no longer close tightly. For this reason, a particle filter has been arranged in front of the shut-off valve. The particle filter is of a large surface area which is integrated in the housing of the adsorption filter, thus contamination of the shut-off valve (51) and an excessive pressure drop of the air flowing through the particle filter (41) is avoided. The integrated construction facilitates a simple assembly of the adsorption filter (41) which is suitable for internal combustion engines in motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 5406788
Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring a system for delivering secondary air to an exhaust tube of an internal combustion engine. In the method and apparatus, a secondary air pump is switched on and builds up a pressure on the inlet side of a blocking valve which is normally closed and not being acted upon. • Patent number: 5373830
Abstract: A breather valve for the gas tank of an internal combustion engine having an adsorption filter which is linked to the atmosphere by a breather line which is controlled by a shut-off valve. The tank breather valve is constructed so that pressure build up in the fuel tank, the lines, and the adsorption filter do not lead to damage of the valves. The magnetic circuit of the shut-off valve provides that above a predetermined pressure in the adsorption filter, the generated pressure is sufficient to open the shut-off valve, thereby facilitating pressure relief without any damage. The breather is particularly suitable for internal combustion engines in motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 5361743
Abstract: An adsorption filter is linked to the atmosphere by a breather line to prevent condensates from settling in the shut-off valve, as they flow through the breather, so that this valve becomes unable to function. The breather has a vertical arrangement of the shut-off valve with a magnetic circuit arranged above the valve operative parts to ensure that any condensate which forms can flow off, without impairing the function of the shut-off valve (51, 51'). The breather is particularly suitable for internal combustion engines in motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 5353644
Abstract: The signal from a vibrationally-sensitive pressure sensor is both low-pass filtered and band-pass filtered. The low-pass-filtered portion is employed as a pressure-measuring signal, while the band-pass filtered portion is used as an acceleration-measuring signal. The pressure sensor is preferably installed in the tank-venting installation of a motor vehicle to measure the pressure differential relative to the surroundings. The acceleration-measuring signal is used to stop a recognition of engine misfiring, as soon as a rough road surface is recognized as a result of this signal.

  • Patent number: 5090387
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for carrying out the method are proposed whose fundamental concept is to perform a diagnosis of the heating device of an exhaust-gas probe, which emits a control signal for closed-loop controlling the air/fuel mixture of an internal combustion engine. The diagnosis is based on that the exhaust-gas probe is heated more rapidly because of the switching-in of the heating device than by mere heating by the exhaust gases which flow past the exhaust-gas probe. The heating device includes at least the probe heater, devices which supply the probe heater with the necessary heating power, and the supply leads therefor.
