  • Patent number: 7740628
Abstract: In order to improve a surgical appliance comprising a housing having at least one sealed cavity, and a drive unit arranged in the housing, such that the cavity can be sealed in a simple way, and the formation of germs can be reduced or these can be removed in a simple way from the cavity, it is proposed that a fluid connection be provided for forming a flow path into and out of the cavity, and that at least one sealing element be provided for closing the fluid connection to liquid fluids and opening the fluid connection to gaseous fluids.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 27, 2004
Date of Patent: June 22, 2010
    Assignee: Aesculap AG

  • Patent number: 6406280
Abstract: In order to achieve high rotational speeds for a drive motor used for surgical purposes without the need for excessive maintenance of this motor, it is proposed that it be in the form of a compressed-fluid-driven, gear-type motor having interengaging gears which are sealed in a housing and have a rotational speed of between 40,000 and 150,000 revolutions per minute.

  • Patent number: 6129731
Abstract: A surgical instrument is provided for cutting a cranial disc from a skull cap. A cylindrical trepanning cutter is provided with teeth on its frontal edge. The teeth cut in both peripheral directions. A driving means drives the trepanning cutter with a periodically altering direction of rotation through an angle of rotation of substantially less than 360.degree.. The angle is at least large enough for the teeth to be displaced by one tooth spacing along the frontal edge of the cylindrical trepanning cutter.
