  • Patent number: 8056243
Abstract: A power tool comprising a housing displaceably mounted to a foot plate, a blade, a motor, an electric switch and an interlock for controlling movement of the housing with respect to the foot plate. The interlock has a control button mounted to one of the housing or foot plate which cooperates with a channel fixed in relation to the other of the housing or foot plate. The control button can select between a plunge cut mode wherein the blade can protrude below the foot plate, or a blade change mode wherein the blade is prepared for a blade change operation. The channel comprises a major leg in communication with a minor leg. Cooperation between the button and the major leg selects the plunge cut mode. Cooperation between the button and the minor leg selects the blade change mode. The interlock may also comprise a housing lock and a spindle lock.

  • Patent number: 7654338
Abstract: A powered hammer includes a housing, a tool holder coupled to the housing and configured to hold a tool, a motor within the housing, a piston slideably mounted within the housing, a drive mechanism that converts rotary output of the motor into a reciprocating motion of the piston, a ram slideably mounted forward of the piston and that is reciprocatingly driven by the piston, and a beat piece support mounted in the housing forward of the ram. A beat piece is slideably supported by the beat piece support. The beat piece is repetitively struck by the ram and that in turn repetitively strikes an end of a tool when the tool is held in the tool holder to transfer the momentum of the ram to a tool. The beat piece support includes a seal that is slidingly engaged by the beat piece. The seal includes an absorbent material.

  • Patent number: 7401663
Abstract: An electric motor driven hand-held tool, such as a drilling, hammering or screw driving tool having a tool housing within which is located an integrated switch unit (6). The switch unit (6) includes an electronic motor control unit (8), a first actuator which is actuated by a manually operable power member (4) and to which the control unit is responsive to power the motor and a second actuator (10) which is actuated by a manually operable forward/reverse member (14) and to which the control unit is responsive to drive the motor in a selected forward or reverse direction. The forward/reverse member (14) is located remotely from the switch unit (6) on a portion of the tool housing which can be seen by a user of the tool during normal operation of the tool. To facilitate this a linkage arrangement (16) is provided for actuating the second actuator (10) in response to a manual actuation of the forward/reverse member (14). The linkage (16) is pivotally mounted on a closed end of a jam pot motor casing (3).

  • Patent number: 6241027
Abstract: A hand-operated electric tool, especially a jigsaw, has a motor unit provided in the tool housing. The motor unit contains in a motor housing the stator and the rotor. One end of the rotor shaft projects from the motor housing and is mounted in two bearings fixed in the motor housing. A countershaft forms an extension of the rotor shaft and carries a toothed arrangement. The countershaft is coupled to the rotor shaft and is rotatably mounted in a bearing. The rotor shaft and countershaft engage axially with radial play and are coupled non-rotatably by co-operating radial projections and recesses receiving the projections. In the region of the overlapping portions of rotor shaft and countershaft, one of the shafts has an annular portion extending at least over a part of the circumference. The annular portion is substantially in line contact with an adjacent circumferential surface of the other shaft. The line contact permits misalignment of the rotor shaft and countershaft but reduces noise.

  • Patent number: 4581966
Abstract: A chop saw pivotably mounted for movement between a raised rest position and a lowered operational position, having a motor driven saw-blade rotatably supported about a shaft, with a saw housing partially encasing the saw-blade and a swinging blade guard which covers the exposed segment of the saw-blade when the saw is in the rest position. When the saw is lowered to its operational position, a linkage system comprising four effective levers and four hinges clears the blade guard, thereby exposing the saw blade to the work piece. To accommodate changing the saw blade while the saw-unit is in its rest position, the effective length of one of the levers can be temporarily reduced, thereby clearing the blade guard from the exposed section of the saw blade. This provides easy access to the saw-blade to be changed.

  • Patent number: 4559857
Abstract: A chop saw has a saw unit connected pivotally about a horizontal axis to a turntable mounted rotatably in a base plate about a vertical axis. An indexing mechanism for locating rotational positions of the turntable comprises catch recesses on the underside of the turntable along a circular arc. A leaf spring is mounted on the base plate and has a free end engageable in the catch recesses upon rotation of the turntable. A release element is movably mounted in the base plate and operable to flex the leaf spring to move the free end thereof out of engagement with any catch recess engaged thereby. Advantageously the leaf spring and the base plate may be integrally molded or cast. Also, the catch recesses may conveniently be formed during casting or molding of the turntable.
