  • Patent number: 5589290
Abstract: The invention relates to a battery box having a plurality of orientation-independent electrochemical cells. Within the battery box, the cells are arranged horizontally, cells which are located one above the other being combined to form a cell group having flow channels arranged between adjacent cells. The flow channels of a cell group are connected via a transverse inlet flow channel to a distributor channel and via a transverse outlet flow channel to a collecting channel, the collecting channel being arranged with respect to the battery box on the side opposite the distributor channel.

  • Patent number: 5543244
Abstract: An electrochemical storage device having a metallic, gas-tight storage device housing in which an electrode stack formed from a plurality of electrode plates stacked on one another is accommodated. Arranged between the storage device housing and the electrode stack is a box-like stack insulation which is made from an electrically insulating material and which surrounds the electrode stack on the sides which come to bear directly against the housing interior. For the purpose of reliable flow of the quantity of gas occurring during operation, there are arranged on those circumferential sides of the stack insulation towards which the narrow sides of the electrode plates point material protuberances which cross over the narrow sides of the electrode plates and which are spaced apart from one another in order to form gas conduits.

  • Patent number: 5286339
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the hermetic adhesive bonding of plastic casing parts of a battery or of a galvanic cell. The casing comprises a plastic casing container and a top or bottom of the same type of plastic, preferably of polyamide, which are adhesively bonded to each other by means of a pair of joining surfaces. For adhesive bonding, the joining surface of one of the two parts is wetted at specific locations with a solvent dissolving the plastic, preferably with formic acid, over a time period of 5 to 7 seconds. The joining surface is aired at room temperature in still air over a time period of about 15 to 25 seconds, and the casing parts are then joined to each other and pressed together with pressure maintained over a time period of about to 5 to 10 minutes.

  • Patent number: 5212024
Abstract: A battery box for a plurality of electrochemical cells which are arranged in rows one behind the other, a circulating-flow channel being formed by a spacing of the cells from one another within each row, through which a fluid can flow. The circulating-flow channels are all fluidically connected to an inlet channel which tapers in the flow direction and is arranged in the vicinity of the box bottom, and to an outlet channel which expands in the flow direction and is arranged in the vicinity of the box lid. To secure the individual cells, the side walls are provided, in the vicinity of the box bottom, with step-type ledges on which the cells are arranged in a vertically staggered manner in the vicinity of their bottom side edges. The slope of the ledges corresponds in magnitude and direction to the taper of the inlet channel on the bottom side, and the width of a step of the ledge corresponds to the depth of the housing of a cell, plus the corresponding clearance of the circulating-flow channel.

  • Patent number: 4909807
Abstract: A welding and backing ring arrangement for the connecting of two cylindrical enclosure parts of a flameproof enclosure of an electric cell having stacks of electrodes arranged symmetrically to the weld seam is described. The ring consists of a rectangular hollow profile section (box profile) with an outwardly directed, approximately equatorially arranged collar. The ring is advantageously produced from two identical ring halves which are connected mirror-invertedly and the meridian cross-section of which has a hat profile. To relieve the weight, the axially perpendicular areas may be provided with breakthroughs. The wall thickness of the welding ring is to be approximately 50% of the wall thickness of the flameproof enclosure.

  • Patent number: 4892793
Abstract: A gas tightly sealed nickel-cadmium cell is provided which works on the oxygen cycle principle and has a charge and discharge reserve at the negative electrode. Further, the partial pressure of the gases which cannot be reacted in the cell is below 0.4 bar. As a result of this substantial removal of the gases which cannot be reacted from the interior space of the cell, there is a considerable rise in the oxygen consumption rate, i.e., the rate at which the oxygen generated in the cell is reacted at the negative electrode, so that higher charge current densities are possible.

  • Patent number: 4671447
Abstract: The welding ring described connects two housing parts of an electrical battery with electrode stacks arranged symmetrically relative to the welding seam. The ring is provided with spring tongues pointing radially inward and axially upward and downward which hold the electrode end plates on their end faces against an appropriately shaped bearing point so as to center them and retain them in their axial position. This arrangement makes it easier to weld the housing and prevents welding beads from penetrating into the container. Also, additional retention of the electrode stack is ensured.

  • Patent number: 4614260
Abstract: A centrifugal coupling with fly elements pressable against the internal surface of a friction drum contact to spring biasing forces wherein the fly elements each include at least two concentric partial weights mutually connected by radially-acting compression springs. The radial stroke of the inner partial weight or weights is limited by a primary side stop, so that from a specific predetermined speed any further increase in the centrifugal force from the inner partial weight directly acting upon the outer partial weight is prevented. The partial weights are further provided with check ramps, inclined in the circumferential direction, for a driver pin mounted on the primary side in order to give the torque curve of the coupling an optimum configuration. In some embodiments the check ramp on the outer partial weight may be replaced by a lever mounted on the primary side which transforms the force generated by the inner partial weight into a centripetal force acting upon the outer partial weight.

  • Patent number: 4258816
Abstract: An installation for the accommodation, insertion and removal of an energy-storage device, preferably, an electric battery, in a motor vehicle which has a special area for accommodating the energy-storage device. Connections are provided in the accommodating area of the vehicle, which connections correspond to the connections on the energy-storage device itself. Conveying and guide arrangements are provided for conveying the energy-storage device into and out of the accommodating area. The energy-storage device rests in a supporting frame provided with corresponding guide elements. The supporting frame is movable into and out of the accommodation area by way of the conveying arrangement in such a manner that the connections of the energy storage device automatically are connected and disconnected with the connections provided on the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4206824
Abstract: A centrifugal clutch which includes two clutch halves and at least one centrifugal weight, which is lockable to one of the clutch halves in a free-wheel position by way of springs so as to permit relative rotation between the clutch halves. At least one driver is provided in one of the clutch halves for driving the at least one centrifugal weight in two rotational directions about an axis of rotation of the centrifugal clutch. The centrifugal weight is displaceable, upon overcoming a pretensioning force of the springs, under the influence of a centrifugal force so as to move from the free-wheel position to an engaged position. In the free-wheel position, the at least one centrifugal weight has a predetermined play in the two rotational directions relative to the driver.
