  • Patent number: 10161361
Abstract: A method for operating a liquid coolant circuit of an internal combustion engine is described in which the coolant circuit contains an integrated EGR cooler such that the cooling system has a single circuit with two operational modes. The method includes a controller that can switch between operational modes to enable delivery of coolant to the EGR cooler when the flow of coolant through the block cooling circuit is blocked. In the second operational mode, the method also includes using an auxiliary pump to pass coolant to the EGR cooler while bypassing the main coolant pump, which can occur by adjusting the flow of coolant through the circuit so the flow through a bypass line is reversed relative to the inherent forward direction of flow in the bypass line during the first operational mode.

  • Publication number: 20170218801
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for an internal combustion engine having an oil circuit. In one example, a system may include a rising oil line from a block to a cylinder head of an engine; a main oil line in the head; and an oil siphon system including a reservoir positioned between, and having at least one portion at a lower elevation than both, a section the rising line and a section of the main oil line so that oil flows into, and remains in, the reservoir when the engine is shut-off. In this way, the design of the oil circuit may be used to improve oil supply to engine components while minimizing delays in oil supply during engine startup.

  • Patent number: 9285012
Abstract: The invention concerns an internal combustion engine and a method of producing the engine in which the engine has at least one cylinder and with a crank drive comprising a crankshaft, in which the crankshaft mounted in the crankcase has an associated crankshaft throw, the crankshaft throws being arranged spaced apart along the longitudinal axis of the crankshaft, and at least one compensation weight serving as imbalance is arranged on the crankshaft on the side opposite at least one crankshaft throw. The compensation weight has an arcuate form on the outward-facing side, the outside of which running in the peripheral direction has a constant distance S from a reference axis which runs parallel to and spaced by a distance ? from the longitudinal axis of the crankshaft, wherein the reference axis is arranged on the side facing away from the compensation weight, starting from the longitudinal axis of the crankshaft.

  • Patent number: 9121472
Abstract: An internal combustion engine with a cylinder and with a crank drive is described herein. The internal combustion engine includes a crankshaft in which the crankshaft mounted in a crankcase has an associated crankshaft throw for the cylinder. The internal combustion engine further includes a compensation weight serving as a counterbalance for mass compensation arranged on the crankshaft on the side opposite the crankshaft throw, where the compensation weight includes an outward-facing side and a distance from a peripheral surface of the outward-facing side to a longitudinal axis of the crankshaft is not constant along the length of the peripheral surface of the outward-facing side.
