  • Patent number: 6321827
Abstract: A supporting roll framework for continuous metal, in particular steel, casting installations, which is divided into straight or curved segments with roll carriers, a plurality of rolls being assembled on one roll carrier. The frame element, as a carrying element, has at least two pipes, which lie parallel to and at a distance from one another, transversely with respect to the running direction of the strand, and between which a web plate is welded in. A holding plate, which is directed toward the strand, is attached to the respectively outer lateral surface of the outer pipes, between which holding plates the carrier which carries the rolls is welded in. The pipes, in the case of internally cooled rolls, function as the cooling medium supply and discharge and, for this purpose, are provided with a connection stub on the outer lateral surface.

  • Patent number: 5992901
Abstract: A device for coupling a coolant duct of a rotating part, especially for a back-up or transport rollers, includes a hollow resilient compensator device fixedly connected to a journal of the rotating part, wherein the journal comprises a bore hole for conducting a coolant and is insertable in a bearing of a stationary part. A second end of the compensator is connected to a first sealing ring. The compensator is enclosed by a receptacle sleeve which includes a second sealing ring that creates a sealin contact with the first sealing ring. The receptacle is connected to the stationary part at an adjustable distance wherein a pretensioning exerted on the compensator by the receptacle sleeve via the first and second sealing rings is adjustable in response to a distance of the receptacle sleeve from the stationary part.

  • Patent number: 5018569
Abstract: A method for continuous casting of thin slab ingots with reduced thickness following immediately the casting particularly of steel under utilization of a mold which is open at the bottom and under further utilization of roller pairs arranged along the withdrawal path, at least some of them are driven and at least some of the rollers are hydraulically adjustable perpendicular from the path so as to act as ingot deforming rolls. The invention is further improved by determining the speed of driven rollers, and the pressure force of adjustable roller pairs acting against the ingot and providing feedback control for the speed and the force. Additionally, providing a master control action for the speed control such that a point of solidification is dynamically maintained in a particular geometric position as far as the passing ingot is concerned; and by limiting the adjustment of rollers as far as the gap between pairs of such rollers is concerned downstream from that point.

  • Patent number: 4631792
Abstract: A roll for the support and transport of ingots is disclosed including a core with a helical duct along the periphery covered by a thin sleeve being secured to the groove or duct separating ridges by welding making sure that coolant cannot flow transverse to the duct and that the sleeve cannot slip off the core. A particular welding technique as employed has broader applications including joining plate or sheet stock.

  • Patent number: 4614228
Abstract: A transport unit for elongated hot metallic stock, includes a roll or roller having a cooling duct system near its periphery and radially oriented feed and discharge ducts for coolant; a journal pin extends from the roll or roller to one axial end thereof and carrying a gear, the journal pin is traversed by a bore extending into the interior of the roll or roller and is fluid conductively communicating with the coolant discharge duct; a gear transmission including a casing is provided and the journal pin is mounted for rotation by means of roller bearings in the casing, the transmission gear includes the gear on the journal pin so that the journal pin constitutes the output shaft of the transmission gear: a motor is secured to the casing and has its output shaft drivingly connected to the input shaft of the transmission gear; a feed tube for coolant extends through the bore and into the roller for fluid conductive connection with the radial feed duct and being connected to a coolant feed supply; additional co
