    Abstract: A cruise control system with a sensor device and an evaluation unit. The sensor device determines movement data and position data of an object. The evaluation unit processes the movement and the position data of the object and data on the movement of the motor vehicle itself. The velocity and/or a direction of travel of the vehicle are regulated as a function of the data. A tracking probability P is determined which is a measure of a control-related quality of the detection of the object. The velocity and/or direction of travel of the vehicle are regulated as a function of the tracking probability.
