Publication number: 20150275742Abstract: A coolant circuit is provided for an internal combustion engine having a compression machine for intake air. The coolant circuit includes a high-temperature circuit and a low temperature circuit. The high-temperature circuit is provided in order to cool the internal combustion engine by way of a coolant radiator and a first coolant pump arranged in the high-temperature circuit. The low-temperature circuit is provided with a second coolant pump in order to cool the intake air compressed by the compression machine by way of an intercooler and in order to cool a coolant of a coolant circuit in a condenser. The high-temperature circuit and the low-temperature circuit are cooling circuits which are separated from each other. The thermal base load of the low-temperature circuit is reduced by this design, whereby the pressure level in the coolant circuit can be reduced resulting positively in a reduction of the energy consumption.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 12, 2015Publication date: October 1, 2015Inventors: Georg CHEKAIBAN, Rainer RICHTER, Andreas KLEMM, Ulrich WIRTH

Patent number: 8972360Abstract: An aggregated file is generated, by storing a plurality of initially provided files in a sequence. A computational device executes a first set of compression operations on each of the plurality of initially provided files to generate a plurality of compressed files that replace the plurality of initially provided files, wherein starting locations of the plurality of compressed files and the plurality of initially provided files are identical, and wherein predetermined bit patterns are stored in empty spaces that follow each of the plurality of compressed files. The computational device sends the aggregated file to a linear storage device configured to perform a second set of compression operations on the aggregated file.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2011Date of Patent: March 3, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Steven V. Patent number: 8675296Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to creating an identical copy of a data storage tape cartridge. In one aspect, data contents of a source tape cartridge are copied to a destination tape cartridge. The source tape being formatted by a file system and includes at least one file system metadata block. Data blocks are read from the source tape to a memory buffer. Whether the blocks read are file system metadata blocks and whether the metadata blocks include cartridge-specific and/or cartridge-dependent content is determined. The content is adapted to the destination cartridge, thereby creating consistent file system metadata on the destination tape. The buffered blocks are written to the destination tape, thereby creating a file system on the destination tape that is a physical copy of the file system and data contents on the source tape.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2012Date of Patent: March 18, 2014Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Arnon Amir, Rainer Richter, Harald Seipp

Patent number: 8418799Abstract: A cooling system is provided for a thermoelectric power generator and that is arranged in an exhaust gas line of an internal combustion engine for generating electric power while utilizing thermal energy of the exhaust gas. The thermoelectric power generator has its own coolant circuit, which also serves to raise the temperature of the components of the internal combustion engine, the chassis, and/or the transmission or serves to heat the passenger compartment. This offers the added utility gained from a faster temperature rise of transmission lubricants and lubricants of the internal combustion engine, as well as from heating the passenger compartment and the rear axle differential and, thus, offers a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2).Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2010Date of Patent: April 16, 2013Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Rainer Richter, Boris Mazar, Stefan Rueth, Gunter Schroeter, Stefan Muench

Patent number: 7992670Abstract: A motor vehicle having a unit, particularly a drive assembly, which is operated by a fuel that is cryogenically stored in a vehicle tank, is provided, in which fuel is heated by a heat exchange with a warmer medium. The fuel taken from the vehicle tank comes in contact with the cold side of a thermoelectric generator, particularly in the form of a Seebeck element, in order to generate electric current for the electric power supply of the vehicle. The warm side of the thermoelectric generator is preferably acted upon by the warmer medium also used for the heat exchange with the cold fuel, in which case the thermoelectric generator may be integrated in a heat exchanger for the heat exchange between the fuel taken and the warmer medium.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2008Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengensellschaftInventors: Rainer Richter, Carsten Schwarz, Michael Schreiner, Johann Tonhauser
