    Abstract: A blood pressure measuring device comprises a sphygmomanometer cuff, a pressure generation device, a pressure sensor, a valve for controllably venting the cuff, and a control unit for controlling the valve. In order to achieve, using only one single valve, a precise adjustment of the cuff pressure of sleeves having different volumes, the valve is constructed as a squeezed tube valve and comprises an elastic tube and a squeezing device adapted to be actuated by an electromagnet and used for said elastic tube, said magnet having a structural design of such a nature that the gradient of the force with respect to the displacement of its force/displacement characteristic is at each operating point smaller than that of the force/displacement characteristic of the elastic tube.

    Abstract: For controlling the cuff pressure in a blood pressure measuring device, the volume flow between a pump for filling the cuff and a valve for emptying the cuff on the one hand and the cuff on the other hand is detected by a flow sensor whose output signal is integrated by means of an integration circuit for producing an actual volume value. A computer unit for controlling the pump and the valve produces the control signals on the basis of this volume value formed by integration as well as on the basis of at least one quantity representative of the pressure/volume dependence of the cuff pressure.

    Abstract: A monitor for the automated non-invasive measurement of a patient's blood pressure comprising apparatus for automatically inflating and deflating a cuff which is to be applied around a patient's extremity, first and second pressure sensors coupled to the airway of said cuff, each providing an electronic signal indicative of cuff pressure, and a processor responding to the signals obtained by said pressure sensors for stopping the inflation of the cuff when a maximum cuff pressure is reached, and for calculating the blood pressure from the oscillations of the pressure signal. A memory is connected to said processor in which calibration values indicating the pressure related to the electronic signals provided by each of said two pressure sensors are stored.
