  • Patent number: 10826835
Abstract: In an apparatus of a communication network first packets of a data flow in a first direction are acquired, each having a first service chain identifier identifying a first chain of services which have been applied to the first packets in the first direction of the data flow. The first service chain identifier represents a classification result of classification functions used for selecting the first chain of services. Based on the first service chain identifier, a packet filter is calculated, which is associated with a second chain of services to be applied to second packets of the data flow in a second direction of the data flow when the second packets enter the communication network in the second direction.

  • Patent number: 10667304
Abstract: Communication systems may benefit from connection setup improvements. For example, fifth generation communication systems may benefit from low latency service connection setup for 5G network terminal in new service areas. A method can include receiving an indication of preference for services from a 5G network terminal. The method can also include determining that the indication indicates a preference for low latency services. The method can further include determining whether the low latency services are offered in a tracking area of the 5G network terminal. The method can additionally include communicating with the 5G network terminal regarding the availability of the low latency services.

  • Publication number: 20170111187
Abstract: The present invention addresses method, apparatus and computer program product for on demand virtual switching in 5th generation mobile networks. When a condition is detected that one or more user equipments need a network service, a locally switched or routed virtual network between the user equipments is created, on demand, within a radio access network. The network nodes of the radio access network serving the user equipments in the radio access network are selected and changed according to a movement of the user equipments by respectively employing the network nodes following a service policy.

  • Publication number: 20090262728
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for routing connections in a packet-switched communication network. Said method is characterized in that the communication network comprises a plurality of virtual local area networks, to each of which at least one network transition between the communication network and another network is allocated, while said connection is assigned to a virtual local area network based on an operator selection code when a connection is established.

  • Publication number: 20080046597
Abstract: There is disclosed a method for switching IP packets between client networks and IP provider networks by way of an access network. In a network element of the access network an IP session between a client network and an IP provider network is registered by means of a Layer 2 address assigned to the client network and an IP address assigned to this Layer 2 address. In the network element an IP service connection between the network element and an IP provider network is defined by means of a Layer 2 address assigned to the IP provider network. Further an active IP session is assigned to at least one IP service connection and/or a plurality of active IP sessions are assigned to the same IP service connection. In the network element the switching of the IP packets from active IP sessions to service connections and vice versa is performed by means of the aforementioned assignments.

  • Patent number: 7177302
Abstract: Two subscribers A and B are each connected to a network, e.g. by means of a leased line or a dialup connection. Subscriber A sets up a telephone connection to subscriber B. In the course of the telephone connection, a data connection additionally needs to be set up. A service provided by the telephone network operator and an appropriate method taking place on the subscribers data terminal equipment automatically transfer the data network addresses of the subscribers involved in a connection and also the connection configuration of the telephone connection to the subscribers data terminal equipment. This means that a data network connection can automatically be set up for a telephone connection on request.

  • Patent number: 7130410
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward permitting an operator to be able to introduce new services and/or service features into his/her network without them needing to have already been provided in advance in the software system of the exchanges by the manufacturer of the exchanges. Disclosed is an information element of a signaling message which is designed such that the services or service features for which it is used can be stipulated during operation using an appropriate administration component.

  • Patent number: 7068662
Abstract: The invention relates to a communications system and a method for establishing a broadband connection, for example a multi-media connection between two or more users, by means of exchanges in a communications network, for example an ATM network. According to the invention, when the exchanges receive a request from a calling user to establish a broadband connection, said exchanges first establish a minimal connection between the users and once the minimal connection is in operation between the users, the requested broadband connection is established. The users of broadband network capacities, which have been reserved by the network at the request of the user, are billed during the call phase. Broadband connections of this type can receive a higher priority than the upgrade of minimal connections to complete connections. A voice connection comprising audio data constitutes for example a minimal connection. The broadband connection takes place for example between video telephones.

  • Patent number: 7042993
Abstract: In current telecommunications services, it is usual for the service provider of the initiator (e.g. the caller or the A-side) of the communications connection to determine the price and charge the A-side accordingly. The other subscribers are not usually charged. The A-side service provider pays a compensation amount (balance) to the B-side service provider. This fee charging and payment system is too rigid for modern communications services. The inventive method solves this problem.

  • Publication number: 20030128826
Abstract: A method in which two terminals operated on a data transmission network store at least one electronic credit. With the aid of the credits, charge metering is performed. The electronic credits are transmitted with credit messages to control units, which check the validity of the credits and, depending on the result of the check, clear network resources.
