Abstract: Novel quaternary ammonium salts of the general formula[R.sup.1 R.sup.2 R.sup.3 N(A--O).sub.n --R.sup.4 ].sup.+ Z.sup.-where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different and each is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkylaryl, alkoxyalkyl, or a (poly)alkylene glycol radical, or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the nitrogen atom, are a heterocyclic ring, or one or more substituents R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 are polyfunctional so that the salt contains not less than 2 ammonium groups, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are identical or different monovalent radicals of one or more alkylating agents R.sup.3 X or R.sup.4 X, for example an (ar)alk(en)yl halide, sulfate or methosulfate or an (alkyl)aryl-sulfonate or -sulfonic acid ester, A is alkylene of 2 to 10 carbon atoms, n is an integer and Z is either X or another salt-forming anion or a hydroxyl ion, are prepared by N-alkylation and O-alkylation of an alkanolamine with the aid of a phase transfer catalyst and are useful as cationic surfactants, etc.

Abstract: Cosmetic preparations are prepared containing from 0.1 percent to 15 percent by weight of oxyethylated diphenylamines as sun screen agents.

Abstract: Color-stabilized nonionic surfactants which contain chemically bonded polyalkylene oxide groups having terminal hydroxyl groups, and in which are dissolved C.sub.4 -C.sub.8 -aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, their C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl esters or mixtures thereof, as color stabilizers.

Abstract: Conventionally limed hides are delimed for from one to six hours under conventional deliming conditions in respect of liquor length, temperature and pH of the liquor, by a process in which a cyclic carbonate of a polyhydric aliphatic alcohol of 2 to 6 carbon atoms is employed as the active agent.

Abstract: Novel 2-hydroxypropylimidazole derivatives of the formula I ##STR1## where m is 1 or 2 and n is 0 or 1, R.sup.1 is an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical of 6 to 21 carbon atoms, R, if n is O, is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic radical of 6 to 21 carbon atoms and is preferably identical with R.sup.1, or R, if n is 1, is a divalent aliphatic or aromatic radical of 2 to 15 carbon atoms or is ##STR2## p being 0 or 2, and R', R" and R"' are hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R" or R"' may also be nitro.

Abstract: Color-stabilized nonionic surfactants which contain chemically bonded poly(alkylene oxide) groups with terminal hydroxyl groups, wherein the color stabilizer is from 0.1 to 5% by weight, based on surfactant, of one or more compounds of the formula ##STR1## where X is O, CH.sub.2, C.sub.2 H.sub.4 or C.sub.3 H.sub.6, Y is O or NH and Z is H, CH.sub.3 or CH.sub.2 OH.

Abstract: Films obtained from paints based on conventional aqueous polymer dispersions exhibit improved wet adhesion to alkyd resin-coated substrates and improved blocking resistance if the paints contain polyglycidylamines which carry 2 or more glycidyl groups which are bonded to hydrogen-free nitrogens.

Abstract: An improved process for dyeing or printing water-swellable cellulosic fibers and mixtures of said cellulosic fibers with synthetic fibers by contacting the fibers throughout with a dye liquor or print paste which contains, as essential ingredients, water in an amount sufficient to swell the cellulosic fibers, a water-insoluble disperse dye and a water-soluble solvent which maintains swelling of the cellulose if water is removed and which is a solvent for the disperse dye, and heating the contacted fibers to effect fixation of the dye, the improvement comprising using as water-soluble solvent a mixture of(a) polyethylene oxide, a block copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide or an ether, ester or carbamate derivative thereof and(b) a polyoxyethylated amine.
