  • Patent number: 4357447
Abstract: Polyfunctional N-chloramide derivatives of homo-or copolymers of acrylamide or methacrylamide. These may be copolymers of methacrylamide and acrylamide; or of either of these with any of styrene, methylstyrene, dimethylstyrene, chlorostyrene and alkylacrylate. Preferred alkylacrylate include methyl-, methylmeth-, ethyl-, ethylmethyl-, butylmeth-, hexyl-, hexylmeth-, decyl-, decylmeth-, dodecyl- and dodecylmeth- species. The derivatives may be cross-linked by divinylbenzene or divinylether.

  • Patent number: 4356289
Abstract: A process is disclosed for making polyfunctional N-chloramide derivatives of homo--or copolymers of acrylamide or metharylamide wherein a homo--or copolymer of acrylamide or methacrylamide is chlorinated by means of chloride in a dilute aqueous suspension of a mineral acid at a temperature of 0.degree. to 40.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4346233
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a process for preparing long-chain hydrocarbon substituted ureas by reacting a long chain fatty acid N-chloramide in isopropanol and/or tertiary butanol with an aliphatic or araliphatic primary or secondary amine in the presence of an alkali or alkaline earth hydroxide at a temperature of from 20.degree. to 100.degree. C. The process of this disclosure is particularly useful in preparing long-chain hydrocarbon substituted ureas wherein one of the aliphatic hydrocarbon substituents contains one or more hydroxyl and/or carboxyl groups, as well as the salts of such substituted ureas.

  • Patent number: 4301257
Abstract: This invention relates to a polyfunctional isocyanate which is an acrylamide or methacrylamide homopolymer or interpolymer having 20 to 100% of its secondary .alpha. and tertiary .alpha. carbon atom amide groups converted to isocyanate groups, said polyfunctional isocyanate being free of alkali and urea groups. The polyfunctional isocyanates are prepared by reacting the N-chloramide derivative of the acrylamide or methacrylamide polymer, in an inert solvent, with a tertiary amine having a pK.sub.a value of more than 7.The polyfunctional isocyanates are useful for forming coating compositions.

  • Patent number: 4296260
Abstract: A process for the preparation of phloroglucinol is disclosed. The process comprises reacting hexachlorobenzene with sodium propylate or sodium isopropylate, in a molar ratio of from about 1:3 to about 1:20, in an aprotic solvent, at a temperature from about 50 to about 250.degree. C., to form trichlorophloroglucinol tripropylether, or trichlorophloroglucinol triisopropylether. The latter compounds are dechlorinated to form phloroglucinol tripropylether or phloroglucinol triisopropylether, with the use of metallic sodium, and subsequently hydrolyzed to form phloroglucinol.

  • Patent number: 4238404
Abstract: A process for the preparation of derivatives of aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, and araliphatic compounds containing from 1 to 3 isocyanate groups bonded to from 1 to 3 secondary or tertiary carbon atoms, or a combination thereof, is disclosed. The process comprises reacting a compound of the formula R--(CO--NHCl).sub.n, wherein R represents an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, or araliphatic radical, with a tertiary amine having a pK.sub.a greater than 7, at a temperature from about 20.degree. to about 180.degree. C., in an inert solvent, to form a compound of the formula R--(N.dbd.C.dbd.O).sub.n, wherein the isocyanate groups are bonded to secondary or tertiary carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 4056400
Abstract: A composition which consists essentially of a mixture of oligomeric and polymeric oxidation products of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin containing carboxy, ether and hydroxy groups as obtained by the direct oxidation of a woody plant material, preferably in an aqueous suspension thereof, using alkali hypohalite in a one stage oxidation procedure or nitrogen dioxide, alkali periodate or lead tetraacetate followed by alkali chlorite or alkali hypochlorite in a two stage oxidation procedure. The resulting oxidation products as obtained by one of these specific processes are especially valuable as additives to a surface active detergent or cleaning agent.
