    Abstract: A packing assembly for forming a packed-bed for a chromatography device is described herein. The packing assembly includes a bottom plate and a first top plate. The first top plate has a top plate hole centrally positioned therein. The packing assembly also includes a middle plate. The middle plate has a middle plate hole centrally positioned therein. The middle plate hole is aligned with the top plate hole when the packing assembly is in an assembled state. The packing assembly also includes a second top plate. The second top plate has a protrusion extending outwardly. At least a portion of the protrusion has a same size and a same shape as the top plate hole to be received in the top plate hole when the packing assembly is in a packing state. Methods of packing chromatography media in a packing assembly and assembling a chromatography device are also described herein.

The device also includes a middle frame housing chromatographic media and a second plate having an outlet, a second primary channel fluidly coupled to the outlet and a first set of secondary channels fluidly coupled to the second primary channel. The first set of secondary channels directs the fluid in a direction that is transverse to a direction of flow of the fluid through the chromatographic media and the second set of secondary channels directs the fluid to the outlet in a direction that is transverse to the direction of flow of the fluid through the chromatographic media.

The chromatographic media is configured to remove the solute from the fluid as the fluid passes through the chamber. The device also has a second plate coupled to the chamber having the second channel and an outlet. The second channel directs the fluid from the chamber to the outlet. The direction of flow of fluid through the first channel and the second channel is transverse to a direction of flow of the fluid through the chromatographic media. A method of removing a solute from a fluid is also provided.

In conjunction with a reference electrode, a counter electrode, and a potentiostat, the electrode can be used to detect 2-6 ppm concentrations of free chlorine in liquid samples. The electrode can be manufactured from graphite used in pencil leads by electrochemical modification, with the graphite as the working electrode, and a suitable reference electrode, using an ammonium carbamate based electrolyte.
